Due to the forecasted weather this afternoon, the following schedule changes have been made: - There will be no afterschool activities this afternoon, which includes: o There will be no sports practices for grades 6-12. o There will be no WIN this evening grades 6-12. o Club Tiger will not be held this afternoon. o Elementary soccer camp for this evening will not be held. o JV/V Baseball vs. Bolivar has been canceled. o C Team Baseball at Bolivar has been canceled. As of now (12:15 p.m.), the Community Salute to Service scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening will be held as scheduled at Waynesville High School Gym. With the potential for severe weather later today, here are a few reminders regarding storms: The safety of our students is our priority. All buildings have designated areas and procedures for students and staff during a tornado warning. Our staff and students have practiced these procedures and are familiar with them. If a severe weather event occurs at dismissal time, we will keep the students in the building (as we have in the past) until we deem it safe to dismiss students. Should this occur, we will keep you informed via email, text and Facebook. If you feel anxious about the storm and want to pick up your child early, please do so at least one hour prior to dismissal.

Two Waynesville High School students broke two records and several athletes medaled during the final Ozark Conference Track and Field Meet at WHS on May 1, 2024. Tyrell Phinn set a new School Record with a time of 1:53.27 in the 800 meter (breaking his own record) and also set a new Ozark Conference meet record. Jonathon Hedrick’s 46-08.25 in the Triple Jump was a new Ozark Conference meet record as well. This marks the final Ozark Conference Track and Field Meet as its members joined other conferences for the 2024-25 school year. Waynesville will participate in the Central Ozarks Conference in the upcoming school year. An ambulance has been dispatched to Freedom Elementary at approximately 3:18 p.m. today, May 6, 2024, to treat an adult with a medical condition. The adult will decide what, if any, further medical treatment is necessary. #wayschools

The district’s Wellness Committee created a fun day of activities for staff members to participate in, including a wiffle ball tournament, painting and a corn hole tournament on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The wiffle ball tournament results are as follows: Softball Coaches – 1st place Williams Early Childhood – 2nd place Whitehouse Wifflers – 3rd place Taking 1st place in the corn hole tournament was Brian Vernon and Jackson Goforth. #wayschools

Waynesville High School will host hundreds of athletes at the Ozark Conference Track and Field Meet beginning at 10 a.m. today, May 1, 2024, at Tiger Stadium at Waynesville High School. This marks the final Ozark Conference Track and Field Meet as its members joined other conferences for the 2024-25 school year. Waynesville will participate in the Central Ozarks Conference in the upcoming school year. Admission to the meet is $3 per person.

Waynesville High School choir students received high ratings at the MSHSAA State Solo/Ensemble Competition on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The ratings were as follows: Blaise Moynihan and Citlali Arzabala received a Gold rating. Rachel Scobee, Talia Johnson, Andrew Lindberg and Viola Simram received a Silver rating. The SATB Quartet comprised of Citlali Arzabala, Viola SImram, Blaise Moynihan and Andrew Lindberg received a Silver rating. #wayschools

WHS senior wins Best of Division Senior Chrystallyn Watkins brought home Best of Division Award in the digital and photography category for 10th-12th graders for her photographic piece at the recent Missouri Art Education Association student show in Kansas City. Families and community members enjoyed the Spring Tiger Festival of Nations on Friday, April 26, 2024, inside Waynesville High School. Multiple countries were represented and in addition to providing facts about a culture, volunteers served up samples of food. Special music was also provided by students playing steel drums. #wayschools

Angel Palomera, a senior at Waynesville High School, has been named the Fort Leonard Wood Student of the Month for April 2024. He was chosen to best represent the character trait of personal courage. His nominator said, "Angel is a student who has not always believed in his capabilities. He has recently - in the past three weeks -- completed all of his HiSet tests and has completed his high school requirements. He is a role model to all of my other students through his hard work and determination. Through his encouragement of others' positive demeanor, he displays courage and accountability. He is first to speak in defense of those less fortunate and model accountability for others through his actions." #wayschools

2 WHS seniors named 2024 Missouri Scholars 100 Two Waynesville High School seniors –– have been named 2024 Missouri Scholars 100. They were honored at the statewide banquet on April 21. “This is a highly competitive and very selective award,” said Dr. Jason Whitt, WHS principal. “Out of all graduating seniors in Missouri, only 100 were selected for this honor.” Rebecca Vail is the daughter of Michael and Yu Chong Vail and Blaise Moynihan is the son of Joseph Moynihan. Missouri Scholars 100 is a program sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. Schools across Missouri were invited to nominate candidates for this state-wide recognition. The selection is based primarily on a formula using the student’s grade point average and ACT or SAT score. Each student nominated had to first meet criteria of an “Academic Decathlon,” which included 10 events designed to assure the academic strength of the student. To meet the decathlon requirements, the student must have a minimum GPA of 3.75, a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1900, be ranked in the upper 10 percent of the class and have taken upper-level courses in mathematics, science, English and foreign language. The student must also have excellent attendance, be an exemplary school citizen and be involved in school activities. #wayschools

Coming forward one at a time, each Parker Preschool student drew out the name of a student who will replace them at Parker Educational Center for the 2024-25 school year. The drawing for the 40 preschool openings was held on April 25 at the center. Parents will be notified by May 3 if their child’s name was drawn and/or their exact spot on the waitlist. Students who are selected to attend through the random drawing will: · participate in a screening in June · need to complete the enrollment process with the Waynesville R-VI School District #wayschools

12 WHS students compete at State Twelve Waynesville High School band students earned the right to compete at the MSHSAA State Solo/Ensemble Festival held on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus on April 25, 2024. These students previously received a gold rating at Districts and were able to move on to State to perform again. "We are proud of all the students for their hard work and dedication to the program," said Jared Sabatasso, director of bands. The Waynesville R-VI Wrestling Program will host an elementary camp for students entering 1st-6th grades in the 24-25 school year. (This means students currently in grades K-5.)
