Culinary arts students at the Waynesville Career Center prepared and served a meal of stuffed pork tenderloin, potatoes, brussel sprouts, dinner rolls and bread pudding for the Rotary Club of Pulaski County’s annual holiday meeting on Dec. 10, 2024, at the WCC. Culinary arts students are under the direction of Chef Jon Dye, culinary arts instructor.
In addition, the Waynesville High School Chamber Choir performed a trio of tunes at the event under the direction of WHS Choir Director Cydnee Gilmore. Afterward, Rotary President Suzanne Wilbur presented a bouquet of flowers to Gilmore in recognition of the outstanding performance. #wayschools
Kimari Stuart, a junior at Waynesville High School, has been named the Rotary Student of the Month for December 2024. She is the daughter of Kimberly Stuart and was recognized during the Rotary Club of Pulaski County meeting on Dec. 10, 2024.
With Stuart only being enrolled at WHS for one year, she has made a positive impact on her teachers and those around her. Stuart was selected to represent this month’s character word of “courteous” by three teachers. Below is what they said:
- “Kimari is the embodiment of courtesy and good manners in every interaction. Whether in class, during group activities or in informal settings, she always approaches peers, teachers and staff with a level of respect that sets a positive example for others. Her polite greetings, attentiveness during conversations and willingness to help others make her a true role model.”
- “Kimari shows courtesy every day in how she interacts with those around her. Her politeness and respectfulness towards teachers and classmates are admirable traits that everyone should strive for.”
- “Kimari consistently shows respect for both her peers and her teachers. Kimari's disposition and manners always impress me. She is a kind and considerate student, and I'm glad to be her teacher.”
Stuart is a great student who carries a 3.17 GPA and has a 95.8% attendance rate. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Drury University and become a veterinarian pharmacist. #wayschools
Three Waynesville High School band students have been selected for All-State honors. Jayla Courtney made 2nd chair all-state honorable mention for bass clarinet, Dylan Liegey made 1st chair all-state honorable mention for lead jazz trumpet, and Seth Steuck made 1st alternate all-state band for alto saxophone.
The three students were among 15 WHS students who traveled to Hickman High School to audition for the Missouri All-State Band on Dec. 7, 2024. These students first had to audition for the Missouri Central District Band and, if accepted, they had the opportunity to try out for the state band. More than 1200 students from across Missouri auditioned last Saturday.
These students will be recognized at the December Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Parker Educational Center. Congratulations to these students and their directors Jared Sabatasso, Andrew Tiefenbrunn, Chance Inman and Nathan Gargus. #wayschools
This month’s #TeacherProudTuesday shout-out goes to Jerred Webb, a teacher at Waynesville High School. His nominator wrote, “Mr. Webb is very passionate about math and his students learning. Anytime a student needs assistance or extra help, he is always readily available, and never complains. Students will never be made to feel incompetent for needing help, but instead he will show students one-on-one, step by step until they get it, and never get frustrated or complain. You definitely always go above and beyond and are appreciated!”

The Waynesville High School Choir Department presented its winter concert on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, in the WHS Auditorium with the Mixed Choir, Concert Choir and Chamber Choir performing. #wayschools

The district also offers a Senior Citizen pass for seniors age 60 and up who reside in the Waynesville R-VI school district. The pass admits a senior citizen for free to all regularly scheduled home athletic events. Those with existing senior citizen passes do not need to acquire a new pass. The old pass will continue to be honored. For those qualifying, senior passes are available at the Waynesville R-VI Administration Building at 200 Fleetwood Drive or the WHS Athletic Office.
Please note that season, annual and senior passes do not include admission to district or post-district athletic events, such as the Route 66 Shootout, or fund-raising events. They also do not include admission to events operated by outside organizations on a school’s campus.

To better serve our community and streamline requests for student involvement, Waynesville R-VI is launching a new process for community organizations to request student participation in their service projects or performances by our talented student groups.
Community organizations interested in partnering with our students may now submit a request online at https://forms.gle/heLtHMXzErCjo6LF7. This form may be used to request student groups, such as JROTC, musical groups, cheerleaders, the dance team, and for service projects. It also may be used to request artwork for an event.

WHS choir to perform at Capitol on Wednesday
The Waynesville High School Choir will perform on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, during the 4th Annual Capitol Choir Performance at the Capitol in Jefferson City, Mo.
The WHS choir, under the direction of Cydnee Gilmore, will be among 15 choirs participating in the event. The performances will be live streamed at https://vimeo.com/event/4765028.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with each school going in the order listed below. Waynesville High School is estimated to perform at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Waynesville HS & Tiger Athletic Booster Club Student-Athlete of the Month
AmeriCorps recognized in national newsletter
Waynesville R-VI’s AmeriCorps program was highlighted in the November 2024 issue of the nationwide AmeriCorps newsletter.
The newsletter stated the following, “The Waynesville AmeriCorps Program provides academic support through tutoring, mentoring, service-learning, and enrichment, with fitness and wellness support, to students in the Waynesville, Saint Robert, and Fort Leonard Wood Communities in Missouri. More than seven out of 10 of the students supported are military-connected children whose parents predominately serve at Fort Leonard Wood. AmeriCorps members help lead Club TIGER, an afterschool program that lets students explore and develop their talents, while gaining critical thinking skills for learning through the delivery of high quality, hands-on, project-based programs in a variety of content areas. During the 2023 – 2024 school year, 45 members served in the Waynesville R-VI School District with about one-third of those members being high school seniors serving in after school programs and summer school.”
