Rhythm Nation – Waynesville High School’s dance team – took 2nd place in the Missouri State Sugar Bears Invitational in Springfield on Jan. 27, 2024. This was the team’s first competition in the school’s history. “These students worked hard to learn this fast-paced routine,” said Coach Cat Poole. “Beyond placing second in their first competition ever, I am most proud of their sportsmanship, which was contagious. Their energy, enthusiasm and respect for all the teams spread throughout the gym.” The action photos are from their performances during home games at WHS. #wayschools

The following information is condensed from a Jan. 26, 2024, article by Brian Hill, Fort Leonard Wood Public Affairs Office. About 50 Fort Leonard Wood service members volunteered on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Waynesville High School to support the Waynesville JROTC Drill Competition, which was hosted by the WHS JROTC Tiger Battalion. Drill sergeants with Company B, 787th Military Police Battalion — alongside Marine Corps Detachment and Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering Navy Detachment instructors — acted as judges for the various events. Soldiers from the NCO Academy also helped support the event. Presenting the trophies to the individual event and overall winners were Maj. Gen. Christopher Beck, MSCoE and Fort Leonard Wood commanding general, and Command Sgt. Maj. Jorge Arzabala. Speaking in the gymnasium at the awards ceremony, Beck thanked the families and service members in attendance, and told the cadets to be proud of “the motivation, the drive and the work ethic that each one of you showed.” “…Life’s a team sport. The relationships you’re building today will carry on forever. Whether you join the military — which is also a team sport — or go in a different direction, the lessons, the values, the work ethic and the drive that you’re displaying with events like this are unbelievable.” JROTC cadet Matthew Doyle from Central High School, in St. Joseph, Mo., took 1st place in the Individual Drill Down event and Gabrielle Carnoali, from Leavenworth High School, in Leavenworth, Kan., took 2nd. #wayschools
