Kindergarten kickoff and enrollment Kindergarten Kickoff was held on May 1, 2024, with a packed house of parents and students preparing for the start of their kindergarten school year. A popular spot was the "signing" table where students wrote their names and posed for photos. Kindergarten enrollment Kindergarten enrollment is under way in the Waynesville R-VI School District online at https://www.waynesville.k12.mo.us/Page/13356. This is for students who will be enrolling as kindergartners at East, Freedom, Partridge, Thayer and Wood elementaries. If you have a student eligible (see eligibility requirements below) for kindergarten in the 2024-25 School Year, you will need the following documents: A. *Child’s birth certificate B. *Proof of residence: Any ONE of the following documents in the parent/guardian’s name meets the state’s proof of residence requirements: 1) property tax statement 2) utility bill/agreement (must be dated within the last 60 days). Utilities include water, electric, trash, gas and home phone/internet. Cell phone agreements may not be used to meet this criteria. 3) real estate contract 4) rental agreement/receipt 5) military housing contract If you have questions about these documents, please contact 573-842-2092. C. *Child’s shot record* If your child has not already received the 4-6 year old immunizations, here are the vaccines your child will need: • Diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough (pertussis) (DTaP) (5th dose) • Polio (IPV) (4th dose) • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) (2nd dose) • Chickenpox (Varicella) (2nd dose) These shots must be administered on or after their fourth birthday. D. Legal documents (for special circumstances/ e.g., custody, guardianship, etc.) Eligibility requirements To be eligible to attend kindergarten, a student must be age 5 before Aug. 1, 2024. According to Missouri law, a child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if the child reaches the age of 5 prior Aug. 1, 2024, or if the child is a military dependent who has successfully completed a state-accredited pre-kindergarten program or has attended a state-accredited kindergarten program in another state. NOTE for WILLIAMS and PARKER Early Childhood Center students: Williams Early Childhood Center and Parker Educational students who will be attending kindergarten in the Waynesville R-VI School District this fall will not need to complete the online enrollment process. As of now (12:15 p.m.), the Community Salute to Service scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening will be held as scheduled at Waynesville High School Gym. With the potential for severe weather later today, here are a few reminders regarding storms: The safety of our students is our priority. All buildings have designated areas and procedures for students and staff during a tornado warning. Our staff and students have practiced these procedures and are familiar with them. If a severe weather event occurs at dismissal time, we will keep the students in the building (as we have in the past) until we deem it safe to dismiss students. Should this occur, we will keep you informed via email, text and Facebook. If you feel anxious about the storm and want to pick up your child early, please do so at least one hour prior to dismissal.

The district’s Wellness Committee created a fun day of activities for staff members to participate in, including a wiffle ball tournament, painting and a corn hole tournament on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The wiffle ball tournament results are as follows: Softball Coaches – 1st place Williams Early Childhood – 2nd place Whitehouse Wifflers – 3rd place Taking 1st place in the corn hole tournament was Brian Vernon and Jackson Goforth. #wayschools

Coming forward one at a time, each Parker Preschool student drew out the name of a student who will replace them at Parker Educational Center for the 2024-25 school year. The drawing for the 40 preschool openings was held on April 25 at the center. Parents will be notified by May 3 if their child’s name was drawn and/or their exact spot on the waitlist. The Waynesville R-VI Wrestling Program will host an elementary camp for students entering 1st-6th grades in the 24-25 school year. (This means students currently in grades K-5.) Tiger Festival of Nations will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Waynesville High School just outside the entrance to the Ninth Grade Center. Learn about some of the many different cultures found in our district and sample food from all around the world. In the event of inclement weather, Tiger Festival of Nations will be moved inside to the gym. Waynesville R-VI District Art Show, showcasing outstanding work by students in grades K-12, will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Lecture Hall at Waynesville High School. The Waynesville R-VI Board of Education elected new officers on April 15, 2024, as follows: President Janel Rowell; Vice President Rick Harne, Secretary Andy Anderson and Treasurer Charles Quinn. Members also include Aaron Pondrom, Layne Lercher and Mike Keeling. Cutlines: Megan Ace swears in Mike Keeling and Janel Rowell following their election on April 2 to the Waynesville R-VI Board of Education. They will each serve a three-year term. Superintendent Hilary Bales presents a House Resolution from State Rep. Bill Hardwick to outgoing Board President Paul D. Shultz II who did not seek reelection. Shultz served on the board for nine years, the last six as president. Superintendent Hilary Bales recognized the outgoing officers for their service: President Paul Shultz II, Vice President Rick Harne, Secretary Janel Rowell as Board and Treasurer Andy Anderson. #wayschools

Applications for Parker Preschool due tomorrow! Parker Preschool in Waynesville is now taking applications for PRESCHOOL students for the 2024-25 school year. Forty preschool students will be selected for the program through a random lottery. Applications for the lottery will close at 4 p.m. TOMORROW, Friday, April 12, 2024.
