Students recognized for having artwork published
Waynesville R-VI students were recognized for having their artwork published in the Missouri Art Education Association's Show Me Art Coloring Book during the Waynesville R-VI Board of Education on April 20, 2026.
Students designed a coloring page based on their favorite outdoor activities, such as cycling, fishing, camping, sports, etc. and submitted their work for consideration in the publication.
Arianna Haslim's artwork took 1st place at the middle school level, and Emiyah Glover's artwork is featured as the back cover design winner.
Mike Henson, executive director of elementary, and Courtney Long, executive director of secondary, presented certificates to the following:

Thayer, Partridge and Wood Elementary students and staff received Culver’s custard sundaes donated by Culver’s on Monday, April 20, 2026, in celebration of April being the Month of the Military Child. Volunteers delivered and handed out the custard. The custard sundaes will be delivered to Waynesville R-VI Schools throughout the week. More than 60 percent of Waynesville R-VI students are military impacted.










Waynesville R-VI will host a Kindergarten Kickoff at 5:30 p.m. on May 4, 2026, in the Waynesville High School Auditorium.
This is for parents of students who will be going into kindergarten this fall. Future kindergartners are welcome to attend as well. Snacks will be provided.

Children ages Pre-K-5th grade are invited to be dropped off at the WCC from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, for fun, educational centers prepared by future teachers. Your child will get to participate in many different learning activities such as rock painting, story book crafting, cloud slime creation, and different educational games. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Waynesville R-VI is taking applications for students for the 2026-27 school year via a Google Form at https://forms.gle/AqBt76fEf9JmSzu26.
The district will have 160 full-day preschool opportunities in the 2026-2027 school year with 40 students at each of these locations:
-Parker Educational Center (Waynesville)
-Freedom Elementary School (St. Robert)
-Pick Educational Center (Ft. Leonard Wood)
-Williams Early Childhood Center (Ft. Leonard Wood)
To be eligible, a child:
· Must turn age 4 by July 31, 2026
· Have a birthdate must be between Aug. 1, 2021, and July 31, 2022
· Must reside within the boundaries of the Waynesville R-VI School District.
· Must have transportation to and from school each day*
Applications will close at 4 p.m. April 21. Students will be selected via a random lottery drawing.
Parents will be notified by May 15 if their child is accepted into the program.

*Parents/guardians are responsible for getting their child to and from school each day. There is one exception: PreK students who are selected to attend Freedom and live within Freedom’s attendance area will be able to ride a bus. The district is piloting a program to bus Freedom PreK students in 2026-27 as the district prepares to expand Pre-K transportation in the future.

The Waynesville R-VI School District will offer Summer School June 1 - June 29 for students entering grades K-12.
For summer school, students register for the grade level they will ATTEND IN THE FALL.

Details:
Waynesville R-VI School District Summer School will be in Session June 1 - June 29. Summer school classes will not be held on Friday, June 19, as we will be observing the Juneteenth holiday.
Both breakfast and lunch will be free during summer school.
For summer school, students attend the grade they will enter in the upcoming 2026-27 school year.
Open enrollment for summer school registration closes on Tuesday, April 7. Registrations received after April 7 will be accepted on a space available basis.
Waynesville Middle School students entering grades 7-8 will be at Waynesville High School for summer school due to cafeteria updates at WMS.
Freedom Elementary students will be at East Elementary for summer school due to HVAC upgrades at Freedom.

There will be no school in the Waynesville R-VI School District on March 16-20, 2026, for Spring Break. District offices will be closed on March 19 and 20.

Egg hunts will be held at Waynesville High School as follows:

The Waynesville R-VI School District set a record number of achievements in a recent statewide art contest for the MAEA Show Me Art Coloring Book. The following earned recognition:
· 5 schools
· 6 visual art teachers
· 15 art students
· 2 special recognition awards (Back Cover Design Winner and 1st Place Middle School)
Waynesville R-VI visual art students contributed to 17 percent of the artwork in the MAEA Show Me Art Coloring Book, Celebrations & Festivals; 6th edition.
Students were asked to research, synthesize and create an engaging line-drawing based on the theme: “Missouri Celebrations and Festivals,” and then write artist statements about their art. The drawings were collected and curated into a 186-page coloring book.

Love of Reading Week is continuing across the Waynesville R-VI School District through Friday, March 6, 2026. Throughout the week, students have enjoyed special visits from guest readers who volunteered their time to share their love of reading.
A few of this week’s guest readers include Col. Glaspell, Col. Ramskugler, School Board President Janel Rowell, School Board Member Aaron Pondrum, Pfc. Solomon, and St. Robert Mayor James Breckenridge. Additional photos from Love of Reading Week will be shared throughout the week.

Waynesville R-VI will host a teacher recruitment event from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at the Parker Educational Center. The event will begin with a welcome session, followed by screening interviews being held on site. At the end of the evening, a drawing will be held for an iPad.
