Returning families: Parents/guardians of students who will be returning to the Waynesville R-VI School District for the 2026-27 school year will receive a link to the annual Returning Student Forms on June 1.
OPAA! and Waynesville R-VI Schools are partnering to provide free meals through a drive-through service during summer school. The meals will be available through a drive-through service on the 9th Grade Center side (stadium side) of the Waynesville High School campus between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on June 5, 12, 18 and 26.

4. How is this program being funded and why is it being offered?
a. The Federal Government is funding this program and OPAA! volunteered to participate so that families in our community could receive the meals. Children are most hungry during the summer months when regular school is not in session and OPAA! is partnering with Waynesville R-VI schools to help ensure that children have food on the weekends during summer school.
The VOICES elementary honor choir performed its spring concert on May 11, 2026, in the Waynesville High School Auditorium. Waynesville R-VI elementary students in grades 4, 5 and 6 must audition and be selected for the VOICES choir.
Students in this choir dedicate their Wednesday afternoons to learning challenging repertoire and practice a variety of skills, including performance, public speaking and instrumental performance.
The VOICES choir is under the direction of Vanessa Mason. Assistant directors are Laura Taylor, Beth Gibson, Amanda JG, and Lisa Martin. The accompanist is Terri Heby.

To be eligible to attend kindergarten, a student must be age 5 before Aug. 1, 2026. According to Missouri law, a child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if the child reaches the age of 5 prior to Aug. 1, 2026, or if the child is a military dependent who has successfully completed a state-accredited pre-kindergarten program or has attended a state-accredited kindergarten program in another state. Please note there are no exceptions made to this state law.
***NOTE: If your child currently attends preschool at Williams Early Childhood, Parker Educational Center, Pick Educational Center or Freedom and they are going into Kindergarten next school year 2026-2027, you DO NOT need to do a "new student" enrollment, but you will need to fill out the returning registration forms. During the summer you will receive an email from PowerSchool to complete these forms for all of your children enrolled in our school district.

Parents, families and the public are invited and encouraged to attend this free event.
Laube will share information about how to talk with young people about drugs, alcohol and making healthy decisions. Laube is the Executive Director of Human Understanding Growth Services and has dedicated her work to helping youth and families prevent substance use. She will discuss:
- Strategies to prevent substance use
- Tips for starting open, honest conversations with youth
- Ways families and communities can support and guide young people
This event is hosted and sponsored by the Central Ozarks Medical Center (COMC). In addition to the evening event, Laube will speak with middle school and high school students earlier in the day.
This means there will be no Club Tiger, no WIN, no sports practices, no sporting events and no middle school band concert this evening.
The Waynesville Middle School Spring Band Concert has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. tomorrow, April 28, 2026, at Waynesville High School Auditorium.
The WMS baseball game will not be rescheduled, due to scheduling conflicts.
The Central Ozarks Conference Tennis Tournament, which had been scheduled for today, has been postponed until tomorrow.
Waynesville R-VI will host a lottery drawing for those who have registered for full day preschool at 9 a.m. on May 4, 2026, in Parker Educational Center, 909 U.S. Route 66, Waynesville.
Applicant families are welcome to attend the drawing. Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. for the drawing. Parents will be notified by May 15 if their child is accepted into the program.
Thayer, Partridge and Wood Elementary students and staff received Culver’s custard sundaes donated by Culver’s on Monday, April 20, 2026, in celebration of April being the Month of the Military Child. Volunteers delivered and handed out the custard. The custard sundaes will be delivered to Waynesville R-VI Schools throughout the week. More than 60 percent of Waynesville R-VI students are military impacted.

Your child will get to participate in many different learning activities such as rock painting, story book crafting, cloud slime creation, and different educational games. To be eligible, a child:
· Must turn age 4 by July 31, 2026
· Have a birthdate must be between Aug. 1, 2021, and July 31, 2022

There is one exception: PreK students who are selected to attend Freedom and live within Freedom’s attendance area will be able to ride a bus. Waynesville R-VI School District Summer School will be in Session June 1 - June 29. Summer school classes will not be held on Friday, June 19, as we will be observing the Juneteenth holiday.
Both breakfast and lunch will be free during summer school.
For summer school, students attend the grade they will enter in the upcoming 2026-27 school year.
Open enrollment for summer school registration closes on Tuesday, April 7. Registrations received after April 7 will be accepted on a space available basis.
Waynesville Middle School students entering grades 7-8 will be at Waynesville High School for summer school due to cafeteria updates at WMS.
Freedom Elementary students will be at East Elementary for summer school due to HVAC upgrades at Freedom.
