Kyleen Oxendine, a teacher at East Elementary, was presented with the 1st Quarter Project Teach Award by Dr. Jamie Goforth, assistant superintendent of personnel services, during the Waynesville R-VI Board of Education meeting on Oct. 19, 2026.
Oxendine was recognized for her project. "Take Home Reading Success Kits,” which give students a structured, engaging and easy-to-use tool for practicing essential literacy skills outside of school. The award comes with a $100 stipend from Personnel Services.

Waynesville R-VI will host "Math Together: Tools for Home and School" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, at Parker Educational Center, 909 U.S. Route 66, Waynesville.
The evening will focus on helping families support student success in mathematics. Parents and students will explore practical strategies, hands-on tools and resources to help strengthen math skills, build confidence and encourage problem-solving. Families will leave with ideas and materials to support continued learning.

Preschool screenings to be held Oct. 13
Preschool screenings will be held at Williams Early Childhood Center on Oct. 13, 2026, for preschool children ages 3, 4 and 5 (not in kindergarten) who live in the Waynesville R-VI School District.
Appointments available at 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30. The child must turn age 3 by Aug. 1, 2026, to be screened. Please call 573-842-2650 to schedule your child’s screening at Williams Early Childhood Center, 12225 Pulaski Avenue, Fort Leonard Wood.
Williams preschool program consists of PACE and ECSE. Both are free for Waynesville R-VI residents who are admitted to the program. A student may be selected to attend either a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session.

Waynesville R-VI's top three Homecoming parade floats were announced during halftime of the Homecoming football game on Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, as follows:

An ambulance was dispatched to East Elementary at approximately 9:05 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, to treat an individual student with a medical condition. The parent/guardian has been contacted and will determine what, if any, further medical treatment is necessary.

Students to showcase their talents on Oct. 1;
4 to be inducted into Wall of Leaders
The Waynesville R-VI School District Foundation will host Showcase Waynesville Schools from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at Waynesville High School. Following the performances, two alumni and two educators will be inducted into the Wall of Leaders.
“We invite families and community members to come celebrate the creativity and talent of our students through their artwork and live performances,” said Foundation President Cheryl Vernon.
From 5:30 to 6 p.m. student art pieces will be on display, along with art and robotics demonstrations. At 6 p.m. students will take the stage for dance, instrumental and choral performances, along with a Waynesville JROTC exhibition.
During the performances, the individuals who will later be inducted into the Wall of Leaders will be introduced. The formal induction ceremony of Brad and Arita Bohannan in the Lifetime Achievement – Alumni category and Dwight Hensley and David Lawson as Outstanding Educational Professionals will begin at 7:15 p.m. in front of the Wall of Leaders, which is located directly behind the bronze tiger statue.
This year’s Showcase Waynesville Schools is free and open to the public.

The Waynesville Community Teachers Association will host a Family Movie Night featuring "Happy Feet" at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, on the field at Tiger Stadium at Waynesville High School.
Donations will be accepted and concessions will be available for sale. All proceeds will fund the CTA scholarship, which supports a WHS graduating senior pursuing a degree in teaching.
Tiger Stadium is located at 200 G.W. Lane St., Waynesville. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

All Soldiers and Veterans with a military ID will be admitted free to the game.
