Waynesville R-VI librarians will bring the Tiger Book Express to Waynesville and St. Robert city parks this summer for children in PreK-6th grades to check out free books.
The Tiger Book Express is open to the public and children may check out books for free, listen to guest readers when available, and visit with Waynesville R-VI librarians.
The dates, times and locations are as follows:
June 8, 15, 18, 22, 29: 5 to 7 p.m. Waynesville City Park
June 11 and 25: 5 to 7 p.m. St. Robert City Park
July 6, 9, 13, 16 and 20: 9 a.m. to noon Waynesville City Park
July 2, 14 and 21: 5 to 7 p.m. St. Robert City Park
Aug. 3: 9 a.m. to noon Waynesville City Park
Aug. 6: 5 to 7 p.m. St. Robert City Park
On Friday, May 29, 2026, Waynesville R-VI bus drivers will practice their summer school routes in preparation for the first day of summer school on Monday, June 1, 2026. Parents and community members may notice buses traveling throughout the district as drivers rehearse schedules and routes to help ensure a smooth start to summer school.
There will be no school in the Waynesville R-VI School District on Monday, May 25, 2026, and all offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.
TODAY is the last day of the 2025-26 school year!
Students will be dismissed early on Friday, May 22, 2026, as follows:
- Grades 6-11 will dismiss at noon.
- Full day Pre-K at Parker Educational Center, Freedom Elementary and Pick Educational and Volunteer Center will dismiss at 12:45 p.m.

Houf wins 4th Quarter Project Teach Award
Angela Houf, a library media specialist at the Waynesville Sixth Grade Center, was presented the 4th Quarter Project Teach Award by Dr. Jamie Goforth, assistant superintendent of personnel services, during the Waynesville R-VI Board of Education meeting on May 18, 2026.
Houf was recognized for her project, "MakerSpace Magic at Maker Mania,” which is an outstanding way to show students that learning can be exciting, active and full of discovery.
The award comes with a $100 stipend from Personnel Services.

The COMC will offer free sports physicals for Waynesville R-VI athletes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (students must arrive by 3 p.m.) on July 20-23, 2026, at the COMC Clinic located inside East Elementary. The clinic entrance is near the FEMA Shelter on the back side of the building. East Elementary is located at 1501 State Road F, Waynesville.
Appointments are not required. This is done on a first come, first served basis.
A legal guardian must accompany the student to sign MSHSAA permission forms.

The VOICES elementary honor choir performed its spring concert on May 11, 2026, in the Waynesville High School Auditorium. Waynesville R-VI elementary students in grades 4, 5 and 6 must audition and be selected for the VOICES choir.
Students in this choir dedicate their Wednesday afternoons to learning challenging repertoire and practice a variety of skills, including performance, public speaking and instrumental performance.
The VOICES choir is under the direction of Vanessa Mason. Assistant directors are Laura Taylor, Beth Gibson, Amanda JG, and Lisa Martin. The accompanist is Terri Heby.

To be eligible to attend kindergarten, a student must be age 5 before Aug. 1, 2026. According to Missouri law, a child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if the child reaches the age of 5 prior to Aug. 1, 2026, or if the child is a military dependent who has successfully completed a state-accredited pre-kindergarten program or has attended a state-accredited kindergarten program in another state. Please note there are no exceptions made to this state law.
***NOTE: If your child currently attends preschool at Williams Early Childhood, Parker Educational Center, Pick Educational Center or Freedom and they are going into Kindergarten next school year 2026-2027, you DO NOT need to do a "new student" enrollment, but you will need to fill out the returning registration forms. Join us for a community conversation with Kym Laube from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, in the Waynesville High School Auditorium. Laube has more than 30 years of experience helping youth and families prevent substance use and is a member of the Tall Cop Says Stop team.
Parents, families and the public are invited and encouraged to attend this free event.
Laube will share information about how to talk with young people about drugs, alcohol and making healthy decisions. Laube is the Executive Director of Human Understanding Growth Services and has dedicated her work to helping youth and families prevent substance use. She will discuss:
- Strategies to prevent substance use
- Tips for starting open, honest conversations with youth
- Ways families and communities can support and guide young people
This event is hosted and sponsored by the Central Ozarks Medical Center (COMC). In addition to the evening event, Laube will speak with middle school and high school students earlier in the day.

WSGC students raise $821 for Snack in a Pack
Waynesville Sixth Grade Center students, their families and staff raised $821 for Snack in Pack through their March Madness competition.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm, teamwork and generosity,” said WSGC Principal Kevin Schnicker. “Not only did this event promote school spirit and friendly competition, but it also gave students meaningful leadership opportunities and a chance to give back.”
This collaborative effort between the Student Lighthouse Team and WSGC Student Ambassadors featured four weeks of activities as follows:
· Week 1: Canned Food Drive Competition
· Week 2: Coin Drive (Congratulations to Jody Taylor’s class for the win!)
· Week 3: Homeroom Basketball Competition (Congratulations to William Beistel’s class!)
· Week 4: Student vs. Staff Basketball Game (Staff came out on top this year!)
