Vaccines for 8th and 12 graders BEFORE school begins To start the 2024-25 school year, Missouri law requires all incoming 8th grade students to have two vaccines administered and incoming 12th grade students to have one vaccine, unless they are exempted. 1. Required vaccines that must be completed BEFORE a student enters 8th grade: - Tdap—protects kids from tetanus, diptheria, and pertussis— needs to be given between ages 11 and 12, and then every 10 years. The brand name for this vaccine is Adacel or Boostrix. - Meningococcal –protects kids from Meningococcal groups A, C, W, Y—needs to be given between ages 11 and 12, and again at 16 years. This vaccine is also given in middle school and before the senior year of high school. The brand name for this vaccine is Menactra or Menveo. __________________________________ 2. Required vaccine that must be completed BEFORE a student’s senior (12th grade) year: - Meningococcal –protects kids from Meningococcal groups A, C, W, Y—needs to be given between ages 11 and 12, and again at 16 years. This vaccine is also given in middle school and before the senior year of high school. The brand name for this vaccine is Menactra or Menveo. Recommended vaccine for high school students: - Meningococcal B—protects kids from Meningococcal group B— given at 16 years of age or when a student is going into the senior year of high school; or two shots may be given 30 days apart. Students who will be living in close contact are at higher risk for becoming infected with Meningitis B. The brand name for this vaccine is Bexsero or Trumenba. __________________________________ __________________________________ Opportunities to get immunizations Students may receive the immunization at: - their regular doctor’s office. Please make an appointment as soon as possible. __________________________________ - School Based Health Clinic at East Elementary Monday-Thursday from 1 - 4 p.m. Please call 573-286-7001 in advance to make an appointment. The school-based medical clinic located inside East Elementary School treats Waynesville R-VI students and staff members. __________________________________ - Pulaski Health Department at Waynesville Monday-Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday in the Waynesville Office. Please call ahead to 573-774-3820 to ensure availability. __________________________________ - FLW Immunization Clinic at GLWACH Anyone with Tricare may receive immunizations Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-11 and 1-4 p.m. This is a walk-in clinic, questions can be directed to (573) 596-1768. __________________________________ __________________________________ Turn in immunization records Students/guardians may provide updated immunization records for both WMS and WHS students and may drop updated immunization record copies by the building or email them to: WMS- Nurse Melissa Harpel, mharpel@waynesville.k12.mo.us WHS- Nurse Marla Driver, mdriver@waynesville.k12.mo.us Please call (573) 842-2092 with any questions.

Waynesville Middle School will host a New Student Orientation Session on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, to welcome ALL 7th graders and NEW 8th graders (8th graders who did not attend WMS for 7th grade), along with their parents. Students and their parents will learn more about the middle school, student expectations and tour the building. Orientation will begin with a presentation at 4 p.m. in the WMS gym. #wayschools

The Waynesville Athletic Department will host in-person parent meetings for students and parents to receive information regarding MSHSAA, NCAA, Waynesville R-VI School and Athletic Department guidelines and policies for the 2024-25 school year. Parents will meet in the Waynesville High School Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. on either July 22, 2024, or August 5, 2024. Before participating in any competitions, it is mandatory for all student athletes who have not attended or viewed the parent/athlete meeting to do so. The information discussed in this session is essential for both parents and athletes, and will greatly enhance the success of your student athlete in the program. #wayschools

Free meals on Fridays during summer school for all children ages birth to 18 OPAA! and Waynesville R-VI Schools are partnering to provide free meals through a drive-through service each Friday during Summer School at Waynesville High School and Wood Elementary. All children in the community ages birth to 18 are eligible to receive the meals; however, families must register in advance to receive the meals by going to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdH-1wLysZ3zxKiBnm65FgPrfL7XUljE-GCD7p-_Y-VnVrOWQ/viewform and filling out the brief form. Details · The meals will be available on the following Fridays: May 31, June 7, 14 and 21. Please indicate on the form which Fridays you will be available to pick up the meals. · The WHS drive-through will be open from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. · The Wood Elementary drive-through will be open from 2:10 to 3:10 p.m. · Each bag will contain two breakfasts and two lunches for each child who has registered through the brief Google form at link above. · A family may only go to one site and must indicate on the form whether they will pick up the meals at the high school or elementary school. Frequently asked questions 1. Are there income guidelines for this program? a. No. All children ages birth to 18 are eligible. 2. Does my child have to be enrolled in summer school to be eligible for this program? a. No. This program is open to the community. 3. Do I have to fill out the form each week? a. No. Please indicate on the form which Fridays you will be picking up the meals. 4. How is this program being funded and why is it being offered? a. The Federal Government is funding this program and OPAA! volunteered to participate so that families in our community could receive the meals. Children are most hungry during the summer months when regular school is not in session and OPAA! is partnering with Waynesville R-VI schools to help ensure that children have food on the weekends during summer school.

The Waynesville Middle School Student Council was recognized during the Waynesville R-VI Board of Education meeting on May 20, 2024, for earning the Missouri Association of Student Councils Gold Honor Council Award. This award honors those councils that have a comprehensive program in promoting student activities and student leadership. Activities include school service, spirit, community service, student and teacher recognition and leadership training activities. Waynesville Middle School's Advanced Percussion Band traveled to Williams Early Childhood Center and Partridge Elementary to perform for Williams' AM session and Partridge's entire student body on Thursday, May 16, 2024. A special thank you goes to Vic Firth and Zildjian for again providing free giveaway items, as well as to Rick Vernon for driving the equipment trailer.

The annual district elementary track meet for 4th and 5th graders was held on May 10 and the Waynesville Sixth Grade Center’s track meet was held May 14. "I am proud of all of the students who qualified for the district meet," said Mike Rawlings, head track and field coach. "They had good times and results for their ages and I am grateful for our elementary coaches who help prepare our young athletes.
