The Waynesville JROTC Raider male team finished in the top 10 at the U.S. Army Cadet Command Raider National Championships on Oct. 25 and 26, 2024, at Fort Knox. “While we did not finish in the top 3 overall, our Male Team finished in the Top 10 of over 300 teams from around the nation, competing in the Male Masters Division,” said Col. (Ret.) Charles Williams, senior Army instructor. The competition included the following events on Friday: Battle Fit Challenge: 1 minute of push-ups, 1 minute of crunches, and a 1-mile run. On Saturday, they competed in the traditional 5 Raider Events with some new additions: - Cross Country Litter Rescue: a 1-mile cross country run with 5 obstacles, while carrying 6 x 35 pound rucksacks and 1 x 135 pound litter among the ten competitors. They also added a written first aid test at the end. - Physical Team Test: a half-mile cross country run with 10 obstacles and strength tests. - 1 Rope Bridge: construct a 1 rope bridge across a 90-foot gap over a stream, move all 10 competitors across as fast as possible, and deconstruct the bridge as fast as possible. - Gauntlet: a 1-mile cross country run with 11 obstacles. This event begins with the 11-foot wall. - 5k Run: 3.3-mile rough terrain run. #wayschools

The Waynesville Tiger Girls Golf team has concluded its season with a record-breaking roster of 18 players, the largest group Coach Nathan Boeh has seen since joining the program. Another highlight for this year was the leadership of returning players, who helped guide the team. Throughout the season, several athletes came close to qualifying for the state golf tournament. With a strong commitment to training and improvement during the off-season, Boeh is optimistic about the team's potential for next year. “We’ve built a solid foundation this season, and I truly believe that with hard work and determination, we can achieve great things in the upcoming year,” Boeh said. #wayschools

We realize that some students are excited about this occasion, but the focus of this event must take place outside the school day. The Waynesville High School FCCLA Chapter attended the Region 5 meeting on Oct. 10, 2024, with 29 members attending. WHS students Faith Bohrer and Evalina Maira started the meeting off by singing the National Anthem. Members learned about state and national programs in the four workshops that were offered: 1) Bears for CASA. Students learned about the Missouri FCCLA program for the Missouri Network Against Child Abuse. Many Waynesville students donated stuffed animals to the program, which are directly given to the children. Students also decorated bags with drawings and motivational quotes for the kids to receive with their stuffed animal. In addition to decorating the bags, members learned about why the CASA organization is important and what they do for kids. 2) Running for Office. Members interested in running for a regional, state, or national office took a mock knowledge test of FCCLA facts. They also had the chance to talk with FCCLA State President Ella Foy and the Region 5 President Athena Kuczynski. 3) Speak Out for FCCLA. Speak Out for FCCLA is a program that can be used for Power of One, STAR events, and implemented in each chapter. Members exchanged ideas regarding recruitment in their school and fundraising. 4) STAR Events. Students learned the ins and outs of the competitive events, and were taught what makes your project stand out from the others. The Waynesville FCCLA Chapter also competed in the Parade of Buckets. They were assigned to decorate a bucket that was in the theme of Willy Wonka. Despite not placing, the members put up a good fight with their gold, highly decorated bucket. #wayschools

On Oct. 12, 2024, the Waynesville Raiders Black Team (Male) finished 4th overall and the Orange Team (Mixed) finished 5th overall out of a field of 30+ teams in the Smith Cotton Raider Competition in Sedalia, Mo. The Waynesville High School Tiger Pride Marching Band performed at halftime during the varsity football game on Friday (Oct. 11, 2024) and then competed on Saturday in the Bi-State Marching Invitational at Potosi. In finals, the WHS band scored the highest in Visual Ensemble out of all of the bands and received the Outstanding Visual Performance trophy. The band also was awarded 6th place overall in the competition. Earlier in Prelims, the band placed 2nd and was also awarded the outstanding visual caption in their class. The band will play again on Oct. 18 at Tiger Stadium for Military Appreciation Night. All active duty service members and military retirees with a military ID will be admitted free to the home varsity football game on Oct. 18. The band will compete in the Class 5/6A Field Missouri State Championships at Battle High School in Columbia, Mo., on Oct. 19. #wayschools
