The Waynesville High School FCCLA Chapter attended the Region 5 meeting on Oct. 10, 2024, with 29 members attending. WHS students Faith Bohrer and Evalina Maira started the meeting off by singing the National Anthem.
Members learned about state and national programs in the four workshops that were offered:
1) Bears for CASA. Students learned about the Missouri FCCLA program for the Missouri Network Against Child Abuse. Many Waynesville students donated stuffed animals to the program, which are directly given to the children. Students also decorated bags with drawings and motivational quotes for the kids to receive with their stuffed animal. In addition to decorating the bags, members learned about why the CASA organization is important and what they do for kids.
2) Running for Office. Members interested in running for a regional, state, or national office took a mock knowledge test of FCCLA facts. They also had the chance to talk with FCCLA State President Ella Foy and the Region 5 President Athena Kuczynski.
3) Speak Out for FCCLA. Speak Out for FCCLA is a program that can be used for Power of One, STAR events, and implemented in each chapter. Members exchanged ideas regarding recruitment in their school and fundraising.
4) STAR Events. Students learned the ins and outs of the competitive events, and were taught what makes your project stand out from the others.
The Waynesville FCCLA Chapter also competed in the Parade of Buckets. They were assigned to decorate a bucket that was in the theme of Willy Wonka. Despite not placing, the members put up a good fight with their gold, highly decorated bucket. #wayschools
