On Oct. 12, 2024, the Waynesville Raiders Black Team (Male) finished 4th overall and the Orange Team (Mixed) finished 5th overall out of a field of 30+ teams in the Smith Cotton Raider Competition in Sedalia, Mo. The Black Team placed as follows: - 4th place overall - 2nd place - 1-Rope Bridge - 3rd place - Cross Country Litter Rescue The Orange Team (Mixed) placed as follows: - 5th overall - 3rd Place - Physical Team Test - 3rd Place - Cross Country Litter Rescue The Raiders will next compete in the U.S. Army Cadet Command Raider Nationals Competition from Oct. 24-27 at Fort Knox, Ky.

The 2024 Waynesville Tiger Pride Marching Band received 4th place out of a field of 24 bands from across Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Parkview High School in Springfield. In the first competition of the season, the WHS band was first selected to be among the 12 finalists from among the 24 bands that competed in the preliminaries. In finals, the band received 4th place out of the 12 finalist bands and also received the best soloist trophy, which was awarded to Chloe Hays, a senior mellophone player. The band also received the Outstanding Drum Major Award of all bands in finals. The three drum majors are Evan Baxter, Noah Forte and Seth Steuck. The Tiger Pride Marching Band will next compete in Potosi, Mo., on Oct. 12. #wayschools

An ambulance was dispatched to Waynesville High School at approximately 1:10 p.m. today (Oct. 9, 2024) to treat an individual student with a medical condition. A parent/guardian has been contacted and will decide what, if any, further medical treatment is necessary. #wayschools

Nineteen Waynesville High School students auditioned and were selected for the Central District Concert and Jazz Bands and are now eligible to audition for the Missouri All-State Band. These students played prepared etudes and scales in front of judges composed of music educators from around the district on Oct. 8, 2024, at Rolla High School. The district concert band students will have a clinic and concert at Waynesville High School on Nov. 2. They will rehearse all day and put on a free concert at 6 p.m. in the WHS Auditorium. Dylan Pelkey, a junior at Waynesville High School, was named the WHS Rotary Student of the Month for October 2024. His parents are Jeremy and Rebecca Pelkey. He was selected for representing the words duty and teamwork. Pelkey's nominator stated, “Dylan is a great teammate when placed into groups for class. He ensures that everyone is on the same page and helps others when they may be struggling. I know I can rely on him to be a team leader, both vocally and by example.” Pelkey is an outstanding student who carries a 3.89 GPA, ranking in the top 10% of his class, and has a 97.72% attendance rate for all three years of high school. Pelkey is on the swim team and is the pitcher for the baseball team. Upon graduation, Pelkey plans to attend Mizzou and become a livestock veterinarian. #wayschools

Waynesville High School varsity tennis team members celebrated senior night last night, Oct. 7, 2024, honoring Faith Valdes before their last home match against Rolla. The team will compete in districts on Oct. 10, 2024. #wayschools

Waynesville High School hosted a College and Career Fair on Oct. 7, 2024, for juniors and seniors. This event provided students with the opportunity to engage with representatives from various colleges and businesses, allowing them to gather important information about potential career paths and educational opportunities. #wayschools

The Waynesville High School boys soccer team hosted Youth Soccer Night on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at Anderson Field near East Elementary on State Road F in Waynesville. Each varsity and JV player walked out with a youth player to be recognized during the announcement of the starting lineup. During halftime of the JV game, the varsity athletes participated in a scrimmage with youth players. The Willard Tigers won the game 2 to 0. The next home boys soccer game will be on Monday, Oct. 7, against the Camdenton Lakers. #wayschools

The Waynesville Tiger Pride Marching Band performed their halftime show, “RadioActive” on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, during halftime of the varsity football game. The selections included “Natural” by Imagine Dragons, “A Million Dreams” from The Greatest Showman and “RadioActive” by Imagine Dragons. The band’s first competition will be Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Valhalla Marching Festival at Parkview High School in Springfield. The band is under the direction of Jared Sabatasso, Nathan Gargus, Chance Inman and Andrew Tiefenbrunn. The Color Guard is under the direction of Bailey Poncia. #wayschools

The following plans are in place as of Thursday morning: PARADE As of this time, the Homecoming Parade will be held rain or shine at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2024. In the event of severe weather, the parade will be cancelled. Should it become necessary, any announcement regarding last-minute plans for the parade will be made on the Waynesville R-VI Facebook page. The parade begins at Waynesville City Park and ends at Waynesville Middle School. CHAMBER TIGER PRIDE NIGHT The Waynesville-St. Robert Chamber of Commerce’s Tiger Pride Night will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. INSIDE the Waynesville High School Gym. CORONATION AND GAME Coronation will be at 6:25 p.m. on the field at Tiger Stadium, followed by the game at 7 p.m.

SFC Nathan Scott, Missouri Army National Guard Recruiter, provided Waynesville’s JROTC program with 60 polos and backpacks for the Raider Team and Drill Team. Pictured are Cadet Lt. Col. A fire alarm sounded at approximately 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at Waynesville High School. Due to a pulled alarm, an investigation is being conducted. All students and staff are safe. No fire or smoke were detected; however, students and staff temporarily evacuated the building out of an abundance of caution. Students and staff returned to the building when fire officials gave the all-clear.

The district has received updated information, which is reflected in the information below. Local police have an individual in custody after the individual attempted to hide near vehicles parked at Waynesville High School at approximately 7:10 p.m. during the JV football game on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. Law enforcement officers have reported that this is an isolated incident and has nothing to do with the school district. We are thankful for the quick action of the Waynesville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.
