We want to make you aware of an incident that occurred today during lunch at Waynesville Middle School (Thursday, April 9, 2026).
On a dare, a student made a statement indicating he/she had a gun. School officials immediately investigated the situation and confirmed that there was no weapon present. At no time were students in danger, and all students are safe.
The situation was addressed promptly, and appropriate actions are being taken in accordance with district discipline policies. While we cannot share specific details regarding individual students, please know that we take all statements of this nature very seriously.
We ask that you take a moment this evening to speak with your child about the importance of school safety and the serious consequences of making statements that can cause fear or disruption.
We appreciate your partnership in helping us maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

Law enforcement officials were called to Waynesville Middle School at approximately 10:45 a.m. today (Wednesday, April 8, 2026) to assist with the report of an alleged weapon. There is no weapon and normal school operations have continued.

There will be no school in the Waynesville R-VI School District on Friday, April 3, 2026, and all district offices will be closed on Friday, April 3, 2026.

W.I.N Flag Football Practice is canceled for tonight.

Law enforcement officials were called to Waynesville Middle School at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026, to assist with a situation involving an individual student. The student’s parent/guardian has been notified. There is no ongoing threat to students or staff, and normal school operations have resumed.

WMS STUCO receives Gold Honor Council Award
Waynesville Middle School Student Council has been awarded the Missouri Association of Student Councils Gold Honor Council Award.
The award honors councils that have a comprehensive program in promoting student activities and student leadership. Activities include school service, spirit, community service, student and teacher recognition and leadership training activities.
This is the fourth consecutive year WMS STUCO has received this prestigious award.
“I am beyond proud of our students and their commitment to serving our school and community with pride,” said Kayla Atchison, WMS STUCO advisor.

The Waynesville R-VI School District will offer Summer School June 1 - June 29 for students entering grades K-12.
For summer school, students register for the grade level they will ATTEND IN THE FALL.

Students in Mrs. Vanatta's 7th grade social studies classes used their "passports" to travel through South and East Asia stations to learn about belief systems in the region. For each section of the passport completed, students got their passports stamped before moving on to the next station!





Waynesville sets record in statewide art contest
The Waynesville R-VI School District set a record number of achievements in a recent statewide art contest for the MAEA Show Me Art Coloring Book. The following earned recognition:
· 5 schools
· 6 visual art teachers
· 15 art students
· 2 special recognition awards (Back Cover Design Winner and 1st Place Middle School)
Waynesville R-VI visual art students contributed to 17 percent of the artwork in the MAEA Show Me Art Coloring Book, Celebrations & Festivals; 6th edition.
Students were asked to research, synthesize and create an engaging line-drawing based on the theme: “Missouri Celebrations and Festivals,” and then write artist statements about their art. The drawings were collected and curated into a 186-page coloring book.
In being accepted, these art students are now published artists:

· Mina Figueroa, grade 5, Thayer Elementary
· Jayce Taylor, grade 4, Thayer Elementary
· Isabella Mendoza, grade 4, Thayer Elementary

An ambulance was dispatched to Waynesville Middle School at approximately 5:10 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 4, 2026) to treat an individual student with a medical condition. A parent/guardian has been notified and will determine what, if any, further medical treatment is necessary.
Flag football for 6th-8th graders
Waynesville R-VI Athletics will offer Flag Football for 6th -8th grade students March 23 – May 9, 2026. The cost is $25 per student.
Practices will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. at the grass practice soccer field. Games will be held on Saturdays (to be announced).
Transportation will be provided for students who stay after school for WIN. A shuttle will be provided to and from the practice field, which is located near East Elementary on Highway F.

THURSDAY!!
Waynesville R-VI will host a teacher recruitment event from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, at the Parker Educational Center. The event will begin with a welcome session, followed by screening interviews being held on site. At the end of the evening, a drawing will be held for an iPad.
