When Edward Parker talked with Will Shurtliff about Buffalo Wild Wings doing a fundraiser for Williams Early Childhood Center to benefit the Snack in a Pack program, Shurtliff immediately said yes.
Buffalo Wild Wings hosted its first fundraiser for Williams to benefit Snack in a Pack with Shurtliff as its general manager on April 8, raising $735. When combined with Buffalo Wild Wings’ $300 sponsorship of Snack in a Pack, their donation totaled $1,035. Business also increased by more than 25% compared to a typical Monday at Buffalo Wild Wings.
“This is a win-win. I’m super happy about it,” Shurtliff said. “I hope that we can continue to build this partnership. I want to do whatever we can for the community. I want community outreach to be a big thing for us.”
Parker, a custodian at Williams Early Childhood Center, initially matched the $300 donation personally. He added $165 to the $735 raised that night, making his donation $465. This made the total SIAP donation $1500.
“I like round numbers,” Parker said with a smile. “I like to do what I can to help our students.”
Parker works at Williams, where Snack in a Pack is housed, and sees the 500+ meals going out each week to students who might otherwise go hungry over weekends and holidays. All of the proceeds from the Williams fundraiser went to Snack in a Pack.
“We are very grateful because Snack in a Pack is 100% donation driven and we are thankful for Will working with Edward and taking the initiative to make this something great,” said Tina Rowden, coordinator of the Community Resource Office.
To encourage Williams Early Childhood Center staff members to attend the fundraiser, Parker hosted games with prizes for them during the fundraising event.
Snack in a Pack’s typical weekend pack costs about $4 and includes two entrees, two breakfasts, a fruit or vegetable and a snack. Additional items are added for extended weekends and holidays.

Tiger Festival of Nations will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2024, at Waynesville High School just outside the entrance to the Ninth Grade Center. Learn about some of the many different cultures found in our district and sample food from all around the world. In the event of inclement weather, Tiger Festival of Nations will be moved inside to the gym.

Kindergarten Kickoff for the Waynesville R-VI School District will be held at 5:30 p.m. May 1 at Parker Educational Center, 909 U.S. Route 66 in Waynesville. To be eligible to attend kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year, a student must be age 5 before Aug. 1, 2024.

Applications for Parker Preschool due tomorrow!
Parker Preschool in Waynesville is now taking applications for PRESCHOOL students for the 2024-25 school year. Forty preschool students will be selected for the program through a random lottery. Applications for the lottery will close at 4 p.m. TOMORROW, Friday, April 12, 2024.
Parents who are interested in enrolling their students at Parker may apply for the lottery at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1I4kLS-ybKn-ExuykdRSOvjJ_ek_UijyBbP-yNjemKJA/closedform. Please note that the link to the Google form will close at 4 p.m. on April 12.
Eligibility to apply to be in the lottery drawing:
· Students must turn age 4 before Aug. 1, to be eligible for Parker Preschool, which is located inside the Parker Educational Center, next to Waynesville Middle School.
· Students must provide their child's transportation to and from the center
· Students must reside within the boundaries of the Waynesville R-VI School District.
Applicants will be chosen through a lottery drawing at 1 p.m. on April 25. Parents will be notified by May 3 if their child is accepted into the program.
Students who are selected to attend through the random drawing will:
· participate in a screening in June
· need to complete the enrollment process with the Waynesville R-VI School District

About Snack in a Pack
Snack in a Pack (SIAP) is a supplemental food program that feeds approximately 550 students in the Waynesville R-VI School District over weekends and extended school breaks. SIAP is a 100% donation-driven program that relies on the generosity of its partners, donors and community volunteers to continue its mission to feed hungry children and improve educational success.
The current cost of maintaining the program is $2,500 per week at roughly $4 per student. The program costs an average of $100,000 a year and relies solely on donations from organizations and members of the local community to operate successfully.

There will be no school in the Waynesville R-VI School District on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, due to anticipated continued power outages at some of our schools. There will be no online instruction due to internet outages.
Water, Warmth, and a Meal
Free meals for students and their families will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Waynesville High School, East Elementary and Partridge Elementary. (RSVP below.) We invite you to park your vehicle, come inside, eat lunch, warm up and fill up your water containers. We ask that at least one adult accompany children under age 12. The meal options will include chicken patty, grilled cheese or chili. If you are able to safely make it to your school this morning, please plan to arrive at the time that was previously scheduled. This week we celebrated AmeriCorps week in each of our buildings. AmeriCorps members are individuals enrolled for a specific term of service, ranging from 300 to 1700 hours, with the Waynesville AmeriCorps Program. AmeriCorps members are engaged in National Service and are not volunteers or employees. They play a unique role in our district. During the day, AmeriCorps members serve as tutors focusing on areas of math and literacy in order to help close learning gaps. They support Club Tiger or WIN after school programs by providing academic support and assisting in a variety of activities or clubs. Last year, the Waynesville AmeriCorps program enrolled two high school seniors to assist with Club Tiger. The number of high school seniors enrolled this year has greatly increased because of the prior year's success. The Snack in a Pack Program is managed AmeriCorps members, who actively engage in fundraising and recruiting volunteers to reduce food insecurity for students within the district. This week we celebrate and thank them for their service.
