Thayer dance recital raises funds
Thayer Elementary hosted a dance recital to not only align to building goals in music and PE, but also to raise money to help purchase incentive items for all students in the building.
Monica Vega, the school secretary, organized, taught and planned the program. She taught dance lessons for two months to approximately 35 students who participated in the program. Wendy Finch, the school nurse, helped her as well as many of the teachers. Parents helped make props and uniforms. Thayer’s PIE unit (35th ENG) worked as stage hands by changing sets and operating the curtains. Thayer PTO was in charge of concessions.
“Our students learned trust, teamwork, responsibility, and gained self-confidence while working hard to perfect their performances,” Finch says. “Thayer staff supported our event by staying after school to help with practices and made sure all of our dancers went to practice at the end of the day.”
All of the hard work culminated on March 3 when the students performed before a sold-out audience of family and friends. The funds will be used positive behavior incentives, technology reward challenges, academics and the love of reading program.
A special thanks goes to Anna Albon, Brenna Caldwell, Danielle Dankemeyer, Robyn Justice, Joe Smith, Jim Wilking, Danina Young, Debbie Akery, Thayer Teachers, Thayer PTO, Thayer Parent Volunteers, and Partners In Education Unit – 35th ENG BN.
