EDGE STEM 3rd-5th grade teams visited the Saint Louis Science Center in December 2022 for an enriching learning experience away from the school campus.
EDGE STEM students were challenged to engage with more than 740, cool and fun STEM-focused activities.
5th Grader Zoey Perry exclaimed, “This is a STEM playground for kids!”
From becoming part of a giant Mario game, learning about the purposes of paleontologists, riding in a flight simulator, discovering farming techniques, to playing “Mindball,” students remained engaged with the ongoing learning fun and excitement. Students described the self-guided tour as “the best field trip ever.”
In January, EDGE STEM students are demonstrating their understanding of designing, creating, and coding real-world purposed robots on PLTW (Project Lead the Way) PBL (Problem-based Learning) teams. Among several other focuses this year, the students will begin to explore the features and components of the human body systems and how the human body thrives by healthy choices or is impacted by disease or trauma.
The EDGE STEM program for 3rd-5th graders is made possible through a DoDEA (Department of Defense Educational Activity) 21st Century Grant, and is housed at the Waynesville Middle School. The aim of the EDGE STEM Program is to foster and inspire student-driven, team collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and 21st communication skills.
