Vernon receives Vernon award
The fifth annual Rick Vernon Homecoming Player of the Game Award went to senior Davin Vernon for his efforts during the Homecoming game against Hillcrest on Friday, Sept. 30. The Waynesville High School tradition pays tribute and homage to Coach Rick Vernon, who served as Tiger head football coach for 33 seasons, and his wife Cheryl who served as the cheerleading coach. Along with numerous conference and district titles, Vernon led Waynesville to the program’s 1st Class 5 State Championship victory in 2007. While the plaque bears his name, Rick Vernon does not vote on who receives the Homecoming Player of the Game award each year; a committee of seven individuals selects the recipient each year.
