High school seniors can be AmeriCorps members
Do you know of a high school senior who is at least 17 years old? If so, they may be eligible to serve in AmeriCorps.
What is AmeriCorps?
AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 800,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.
In the Waynesville R-VI School District:
AmeriCorps members are volunteers of the Corporation for National and Community Service who are sponsored by a local community organization. In the case of Waynesville AmeriCorps, the Waynesville R-VI school district is the sponsoring organization; the Community Resource Office manages Waynesville AmeriCorps members and their activities.
AmeriCorps members are exclusively involved in education; Waynesville AmeriCorps members serve in various District schools, providing individualized tutoring and teacher aid services. In addition to tutoring in schools, AmeriCorps members also serve in the Club TIGER Afterschool Program where they provide academic tutoring and lead clubs and activities.
