On Saturday, March 18, 2023, the Waynesville High School Chess Club competed in the Missouri Chess State Tournament in Columbia, Mo., at Battle High School. In the high school team division, Waynesville placed 14th in State out of 38 teams. The following individuals placed in the top 20 for their respective boards:
Board 1: Peter Johnson, 19th (out of 40)Board 2: Eric Glover, 18th (out of 30)Board 3: Jonathon Smith, 20th (out of 34)
6th Grade:
Joshua Hardwick, a student at the Waynesville 6th Grade Center, finished 19th as a team (which most teams had four members and he had just himself), in 19th place.Individually, Hardwick finished 21st out of 48.Issued March 27, 2023
