Amanda Lamkins and Traci Simpson's second graders at Freedom elementary have been practicing their creative writing skills during Summer School by writing about an animal they would like to be and why. As part of the lesson, they made balloon animals based on the story they wrote. Some chose puppies, some unicorns, some alligators, etc. Students got to practice inserting descriptive details into their writing and providing evidence/reasons for their choices. Finally, they practiced following multistep directions and collaborating to make their balloon animals.
