Whitt named WHS Principal
Dr. Jason Whitt will become the principal of Waynesville High School on July 1; Whitt will replace Randy Luebbert, who is retiring.
“Dr. Whitt is an experienced leader who was chosen from a field of excellent candidates,” said Dr. Brian Henry, superintendent. “He was chosen because of his strong focus on academic excellence through continuous improvement, which he achieves through building relationships with students, staff and the community.”
Whitt’s breadth of experience includes working in large and small high schools and both inner city and rural districts. He is known as an effective mentor who promotes Professional Learning Communities, implements plans to improve attendance and celebrates academic achievements.
“This is a great opportunity to come to a district that highly values academic excellence; it matches my personal and professional philosophy,” Whitt said. “Waynesville is an impressive district with great community support, especially from Fort Leonard Wood.”
Whitt holds a bachelor’s in physical education from College of the Ozarks, a master’s in educational administration and an education specialist degree from William Woods University and a doctorate of education in educational leadership from Saint Louis University. He also has completed the 12th United States Marine Corps Educators Workshop. Whitt received the Meritorious Award for Distinguished Young Alumnus from the College of the Ozarks in 2017.
Whitt has been a principal at Fulton High School, Southeast High School in the Kansas City Public School District and Lexington High School. Whitt also has served as an assistant superintendent of personnel and student services for Moberly Public Schools and as an adjunct professor at William Woods University.
Whitt and his wife, Sheri Whitt, a math teacher, have been married for 20-plus years and have three dogs.
