5 grads of West Point tie record

Having five Waynesville High School former students graduate from West Point tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, 2020, will actually tie the existing record for the largest number of WHS students to graduate in one ceremony, according to Billy Kesselring.

Although they did not all graduate from WHS in the same year, Kesselring reports that these five – John Culpepper, Chris Morton, Nate Crane, Duncan Smith and Billy Kesselring – graduated from U.S. Military Academy (West Point) on May 27, 2000.

“What a great record to promote – twice in the history of our community – five former WHS students are graduating from West Point together,” said Dr. Brian Henry, superintendent. “Given our strong connectivity with Fort Leonard Wood, I am not surprised to learn that this has happened before. From a historical perspective, it’s interesting to note that the records are occurring 20 years apart.”

Tying the record on Saturday will be Hunter Ball, Ashley Wolfe, Jon Lowe, Robert Osborn and Jason Brodeur.  In addition, Capt. Jesslyn Clark, a 2012 Waynesville High School graduate, will pilot a Blackhawk helicopter that will fly over graduation ceremonies at West Point.
