Freedom’s kitchen receives score of 100%on summer feeding program inspection

Freedom Elementary’s kitchen received a 100% passing rate on its recent summer feeding program inspection by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The Missouri Food Code is a 113-page document.

“Hundreds of items are inspected and it’s rare to receive a perfect score,” said Ryan Murphy, director of nutritional services for OPAA! “Our inspector said that Freedom was one of the most organized summer feeding programs in the state and also was impressed how we were already freezing our milk to maintain safe temperatures throughout the distribution process.”

Food service personnel from both East Elementary and Freedom Elementary have worked as one team – the "Freeast team" – during the COVID-19 pandemic to produce thousands of meals for children.

The district, in partnership with OPAA!, recently reached the milestone of serving 500,000 meals prepared at Freedom, Partridge Elementary, Wood Elementary and Waynesville High School during COVID-19.

“I am so proud of all of our food service personnel throughout our district who have worked countless hours to keep kids fed in our community and while they may be working harder than ever, they are continuing to maintain high standards,” Murphy said.
