WHS issues Graduation guidelines and information

Waynesville High School’s Graduation for the Class of 2020 will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Tiger Stadium, weather permitting.

All attendees, including guests and graduates, will be expected to wear masks and to observe social distancing. Masks will be provided for the graduates.

“It is very important to me and the district to be able to hold a live ceremony and let our seniors finish with a traditional graduation since so much of their senior year has been interrupted. This ceremony will be a little different from any we have ever held before, so I ask for patience as we prepare for and observe this special occasion,” said WHS Principal Randy Luebbert. “We are doing our best to provide a ceremony that is both meaningful and safe for the Class of 2020 and their guests.”

Social distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced for graduates and guests; anyone attending the graduation ceremony will be expected to comply with the guidelines at all times before, during and after the ceremony.

Graduates will go to their assigned classrooms inside WHS prior to the ceremony and will march into the stadium maintaining social distance between them and be seated on the football field in chairs that will be placed six feet apart.

Both the home and visitor bleachers will be used for guests. Because of social distancing requirements each graduate will only be issued two tickets for guests to attend the ceremony; no one will be admitted into the parking lot or stadium without a ticket. Upon arrival to the stadium, guests are to remain in their vehicles until instructed to make their way into the stadium. Dots will be placed on the bleachers to indicate where guests may sit so that social distancing may be observed before, during and after the ceremony. Additional bleacher seating will be placed along the track for guests as well.

No flowers, balloons, signs, etc. may be brought into the stadium; however, each guest is encouraged to bring an unopened bottle of water into the stadium. Fountains will be blocked off, but restrooms will be available.

Upon completion of the ceremony, graduates will be dismissed one row at a time to return to their assigned classrooms and guests will be released one row at a time from the stadium as well.

“To maintain social distancing and avoid individuals congregating in the parking lot, families are asked to depart as soon as possible once they reach their vehicles,” Luebbert said.

Waynesville Career Center Video Production students will provide live coverage of the 2020 Waynesville High School graduation ceremony on Cable America Local 12. The ceremony will also be streamed live in high definition on the Waynesville Channel 12 & Tiger TV Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/waynesvillech12. Live coverage of the ceremony begins Friday, June 19, 2020 at 7:30 PM CST.

Parking lots will open at 6 p.m. No parking is allowed along GW Lane Street, which leads to the high school.

In the event of rain, alternative plans will be announced.
