Author reads her book to Wood students virtually

Sandra Horning, the author of The Giant Hug, visited with Wood Elementary students virtually. The Giant Hug tells the story of a little pig, Owen, who wants to send a hug to his grandmother who lives far away. Wood Elementary librarian, Lori Crabtree, contacted Horning at the beginning of April to request permission for an online read aloud. Horning was thrilled to hear about how her story would be shared with students at Wood Elementary.  During distance learning, Crabtree holds a nightly read aloud from her porch. For the week of April 14-21, she read the book The Giant Hug to the students so they could be familiar with it before Horning’s virtual visit.  Approximately 30 families joined Crabtree on April 22 to listen to Horning as she read her book. The students asked interesting questions and enjoyed learning about how an author uses life experiences to create stories for children.
