Heat from a kiln causes fire alarm to sound
Fire department called to WHS
The fire department was called to Waynesville High School at approximately 7:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, in response to a fire alarm sounding.
Heat from a kiln in the building’s art room caused a nearby sprinkler to go off. Students are not being allowed to go down the first floor hallway where the art room is located so that crews can clean up the water. Otherwise, the school day will continue as normal.
“There was no fire; however, when the sprinkler detects a certain temperature, it automatically deploys as a safety precaution,” said Michele Sumter, director of student services.
