New entry procedures for Waynesville Schools
New entry procedures for Waynesville Schools
Waynesville R-VI schools will provide new entry procedures starting in the 2019-20 school year. Rather than waiting outside, parents will enter into the vestibule and then announce their presence to receive assistance and/or admittance to their child’s school.
“We want our schools to strike the balance between being both welcoming and secure,” said Michele Sumter, director of student services. “Since the installation of the secure buzzer system at the doors, our parents have asked if we could modify the process so that they could get inside out of the rain, cold and snow while they are waiting. Our new systems will address this concern.”
At Waynesville Sixth Grade Center, Waynesville Middle School, Waynesville High School, Waynesville Career Center, Williams Early Childhood and the elementary schools on Fort Leonard Wood – Partridge, Thayer and Wood – parents will enter the first set of doors, press the silver 2N box to be acknowledged, present their photo ID to the camera and state their purpose for their visit.
At East Elementary and Freedom Elementary, parents will pilot a program that will allow them to scan their KidAccount card and have their child brought directly to them. At all other schools, parents will still present their ID for student pickup and their child will be called to the office for dismissal.
“We hope this new procedure will expedite the check-out process for parents and help promote a secure and safe place for students to learn,” Sumter said.
With the modified process, parents at East Elementary and Freedom Elementary will enter the first set of doors, press the silver 2N box to be acknowledged and present their photo ID to the camera, then they will type their name into the nearby KidAccount screen and select the purpose for their visit.
If anyone has questions about the process, they may contact Student Services at 573-842-2092.
