WHS to hold lockdown drill on Friday
Waynesville High School will conduct a Code Red Lockdown Drill on Friday, March 8, 2019. The exact time of the drill will not be announced in order to test preparedness and response times.
The drill was originally scheduled for Feb. 15, but was rescheduled due to an inclement weather day.
“Like all of our drills, this is only an exercise to help teachers, staff and students practice what they should do if an intruder attempts to enter their building,” said Todd Whalen, director of student services.
Local law enforcement and emergency officials have been invited to observe and participate in the drill.
The drill is estimated to last approximately 10 minutes. Parents of high school students who need to check out their children on Friday, March 8, 2019, should allow an extra 10 minutes for check out. During the drill, students will be unable to check out and parents will be asked to wait outside the building.
“The safety of our students is our priority,” Whalen said. “We believe it is necessary to practice a Code Red Lock Down Drill, just as we would a fire, tornado or earthquake drill.”
