Waynesville’s 24 cadets made an impressive showing at the JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) at the Missouri Military Academy from June 1 – 6 where 400 cadets from approximately 30 high schools were competing in a variety of events.  

 

Shawn Berrios, a WHS senior, achieved the high male physical fitness score on the Cadet Challenge, was named the Company's Leadership Award Winner, and received a coin during a visit from the Deputy Brigade Commander. Berrios was also selected to be the Commander of Troops for the Graduation and Awards Ceremony. 

 

Sommer Barragan received a coin of excellence, as the best all-around Waynesville cadet at camp.

 

Cadets participated in a variety of events which included, The Cadet Challenge (physical fitness test), obstacle course, land navigation, first aid, cross country liter carry and obstacle course, leader reaction course, rappelling from a 40 foot tower, drown proofing and lake operations, which included canoeing, swamping a canoe and getting it back in operation, a raft building relay, and military assault raft training. They also were graded in various leadership positions.

 

On the final day, there was a platoon competition that consisted of 1 rope bridge, obstacle course, swimming relay, push-up and sit-up competition, drill competition, and a teamwork exercise.  Waynesville’s cadets were paired in a platoon with Moberly High School and McClure High School from St. Louis and finished 3rd overall on the platoon competition out of 9 platoons, with a 1st place finish on the 1 rope bridge.
