WHS students place at National BETA Convention

Two Waynesville High School students – Vanessa Blake, who will be a junior this fall, and Zoie Francisco, who graduated as a valedictorian in May, placed in the National Beta Convention, which was held June 19-22 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Blake received 3rd in the Poetry Division I (for 9th-10th graders)

Francisco received 6th in Speech Division II (for 11th-12th graders).

Beta Clubs promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students.

“This was the first year for Beta at WHS, so I am especially pleased with our success,” said Dawn Wilking, advisor. “To have two of our students place at Nationals is extraordinary and has established a high bar for this club. We look forward to adding more students this year and hopefully growing the club throughout the school district.”

In order to qualify for National Convention, students must place in the top 5 at the State Convention. Francisco received runner up in the State and Vanessa placed 1st at state.
