McFadden named South Central Regional Teacher of Year

Olga McFadden, Waynesville R-VI’s Teacher of the Year, was one of two teachers named the 2019-20 South Central Regional Teacher of the Year during a ceremony on Wednesday, June 26, at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

“South Central Missouri is fortunate to have outstanding teachers who care about their students, so it is quite an honor for Mrs. McFadden to be selected as one of only two South Central Regional Teachers of the Year,” said Dr. Brian Henry, superintendent. “She loves teaching students and opening their eyes to new cultures. Her dedication extends beyond the academic year. Just days before the ceremony, she arrived in the United States from Europe, where she had been leading a student tour.”

McFadden teaches German classes at Waynesville High School. She has a degree in linguistics and pedagogy from Kaluga State Pedagogical University in Russia, a teacher certification from Missouri State University, and a master's degree in educational technology from Missouri State University.

Among other dignitaries, WHS Principal Randy Luebbert and State Representative Steve Lynch were among the attendees at the banquet.

Waynesville R-VI’s District Professional Development Committee designed and implemented the district’s Teacher of the Year selection process.

McFadden is now eligible to represent Waynesville in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Missouri Teacher of the Year process. State finalists will be announced in August.
