To comply with state law, all Waynesville R-VI employees will need to be fingerprinted


To comply with Missouri Senate Bill 62 (2017), all Waynesville R-VI employees hired before July 1, 2015, will need to be fingerprinted during the 2019-20 school year.


Fingerprinting will be provided at no cost to Waynesville R-VI employees who utilize the fingerprinting site at the Administration Building, 200 Fleetwood Drive, in Waynesville. 


“Even if employees (hired before July 1, 2015) previously submitted their fingerprints, they will need to do so again to be in compliance with state law and board policy,” said Hilary Bales, assistant superintendent of personnel services. “Both part-time and full-time employees will be required to be fingerprinted.”


Since July 1, 2015, the fingerprints of all new employees have been entered into the Rapback system, which provides the school district with automatic criminal history updates.


“We have been using the Rapback system for the past four years." Bales said. “We are now expanding the program to all employees so that we can meet the requirements of Senate Bill 62.”


Senate Bill 62 requires public employers, such as school districts, to notify the relevant retirement systems when an employee or former employee is charged or convicted of certain offenses when committed in relation to the employee’s or former employee’s position with the district.


“In addition to meeting the legal requirements, fingerprinting will add an additional layer of protection for our students,” Bales said. “The safety and security of our students is of the utmost importance.”


Based on Senate Bill 62’s requirements and the Missouri School Board Association’s recommendation, the Waynesville R-VI School District adopted the revised policies GBEBC and GBEBC-AP1 in March. The district’s TABS committee reviewed the policy prior to its approval.


“Since March, we have been working to find a no-cost, local solution for our employees and ultimately working to become a registered fingerprinting site to make this as convenient as possible,” Bales said. 


Ongoing re-fingerprinting will be required every six years to ensure that a criminal background check is regularly conducted.


The fingerprinting site in the Administration Building will open sometime in June and appointments may be made available. More information for employees will be coming throughout the summer.
