Wood students learn about conservation

Chelsea Lane’s Nature Unleashed Club at Wood Elementary partook in a field experience at Margarite Bray Conservation Area in Rolla.  Nature Unleashed is an after-school club which is designed around the Missouri Department of Conservation.

This program helps 3rd-5th grade students understand ecosystem connections by exploring Missouri’s ponds, forests and prairies. Each meeting includes hands on activities that get students outdoors: exploring, investigating and asking questions about the ecosystems around their school.

During their field experience students looked at specialized structures that animals have and learned how these structures help the animals survive. They were given a course on the proper way to use a compass, completed a scavenger hunt and enjoyed an afternoon of fishing.
