WHS track wins conference, will host sectionals; Handley sets new school record 


The Waynesville High School Varsity Boys Track Team narrowly won the Ozarks Conference Track Meet on May 1 with 122.5 points over West Plains’ 122 points. 


“It’s a great day to be a Tiger,” said Head Coach Mike Rawlings. “Winning first place by this narrow of a margin shows that every athlete did his part in each event. Our collective team effort produced this win.”


Anthony Bledsoe won the triple jump (43-09.50) and Jared Hyatt took first place in the high jump with a 6-00.00 finish.

Kaiden Tripp won the 100 (11.18), placed third in the 200 (22.71) and anchored the 4×1 and 4×2. 

“All four were season bests for Tripp,” Rawlings said. "His focus and hard work in practice really paid off." 

Cameron Cavalier’s second place in the 200 (22.63) was also a season best. Cavalier and Tripp combined with Eric Richardson and Desmond Dawkins for the 4×200 (1:31.00) and a second place finish, and the 4×100 for another second (43.39).

Victor Daos, finished third in the 800 meter run; Danyl McCullough, took third in the long jump (19-11.50); Danyl McCullough, Victor Daos, Jaylen Andrews, Earzabre Gibson finished in third place in the 4×400; Timothy Brech, finished in fourth in javelin (140-03) and Eric Richardson finished in fourth place in the 100 meter dash (11.38).  

The Varsity Girls Track Team took 6th place at the conference meet; however, Molly Handley finished 1st place with a 10’6” pole vault that set a new school record. 


Districts will be held on Saturday, May 11, at Hillsboro, followed by sectionals at WHS on May 18.
