3-Star General visits JROTC program 

Lt. Gen. Theodore D. Martin, the Deputy Commanding General/Chief of Staff, United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, visited Waynesville’s JROTC program at the Waynesville Career Center on Friday, Dec. 14.

“We are honored to have been selected for this visit from Lieutenant General Martin,” said Col. (Ret.) Charles Williams, senior Army instructor JROTC. “While we have great facilities, our focus was for him to meet our program’s greatest asset – our cadets. I am proud of our cadets and how they conducted themselves today.”

Waynesville’s JROTC cadets provided an overview of the battalion and answered questions about the program, along with the JROTC Cadre, which includes Williams, CSM (Ret.) Steven Tetreault and 1st Sgt. (Ret) Meghan Fadl.

His bio states, “The Martin family’s military heritage harkens back more than 10 generations to 1776 when Private Daniel Martin enlisted in the 1st New Jersey Infantry Regiment and fought the British during the American Revolution, including service at Valley Forge. Lieutenant General Martin graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1983 and was commissioned a second lieutenant of Armor. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course (Cavalry Track), the Infantry Officer Advanced Course, the Naval College of Command and Staff, and the Army War College. He holds a Master’s Degree in National Security & Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College, and a Master’s Degree in Business from Webster University.

Beyond his command experience, Lieutenant General Martin has served in a wide variety of staff and leadership assignments including duty in the 1st Armor Training Brigade, Fort Knox, Kentucky; the Combined Arms Command-Training, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Advisor to the Imam Mohammed bin Saud Brigade and later the Prince Sa’ad bin Abdul Rahman Brigade, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Deputy Chief of Staff, G3, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq; Joint Improvised Explosive Device-Defeat Task Force as the Iraq Field Team Leader, Baghdad, Iraq; and Human Resources Command, Alexandria, Virginia, as Armor Branch Chief and Chief of Combat Arms Division.”
