Front Wing of Middle School, Fall 2021 New Middle School Academic Wing, Fall 2018
In the heart of Mid-Missouri, Waynesville Middle School serves approximately 900 seventh and eighth grade students living in the Waynesville R-VI School District. We serve the communities of Waynesville, St. Robert, Fort Leonard Wood, and the surrounding rural areas in Pulaski County. We are very proud of our richly diverse population of students, many of whom have lived all over the world, and others who have always called the Waynesville-St. Robert area home.
Waynesville Middle School boasts an outstanding team of educators who are dedicated to the personal and academic success of each individual student. Our teachers, who daily consider the “why” of what they do, offer expertise, compassion, and commitment to student growth, giving countless hours both during and after school to ensure student success.
Through our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), our teachers meet weekly to evaluate student performance and make adjustments to support student learning and growth. A truly progressive school, we are always looking for ways to improve ourselves and our practice.
The adjustment to middle school can be challenging for students, and to ease this process, WMS students are grouped into teams. We have three teams per grade level, consisting of a math, science, ELA, and social studies teacher who will all work together to educate their approximately 150 shared students. Our White, Orange, and Grey Teams have classrooms that are grouped in close proximity to foster collaboration and communication among the team teachers and to allow students to more easily transition between classrooms.
In addition to grouping students in teams, WMS also uses the Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) model to promote and reinforce positive behaviors in our students. Our PBS expectations are Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Our school has received the Award of Excellence from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for our PBS program. Developing habits for success among our students is a priority at WMDS.
After school offerings for students include many activities through the district’s WIN program, Academic Assistance (AA) offered at least once a week after school by each teacher, and a variety of school sports teams, clubs, and music programs.
At WMS, our mission is to ensure the success of our students, and we are committed to working with parents and the community to ensure that their experience at Waynesville Middle School will challenge them to grow, personally and academically, into people who can lead and succeed.
