WHS Social Studies Department

  • It is the mission of the Social Studies Department to provide students with the academic background and skills to become active and informed citizens who can function successfully in an increasingly complex, multicultural, and changing world. Teachers will partner with students, families, and the community to develop enduring understandings in the social studies, which will lead to a well-informed and civic-minded citizenry that can sustain and build on democratic traditions.

    The Social Studies Department at WHS offers a wide variety of classes to meet the various needs and interests of students.

    • US Government
    • Psychology I & II
    • Sports Psychology
    • Sociology
    • World War II
    • Civil War

    The following Advanced Placement classes are also offered:

    • Pre-AP World History
    • AP US History
    • AP US Government & Politics
    • AP Psychology
    • AP Macro and Micro Economics

    The state of Missouri requires students to acquire a minimum of three credits in the Social Studies Area for a Graduation Diploma. U.S. History and US Government are required. Students are also required to pass the US Constitution, Missouri Constitution, and US Citizenship Test prior to graduating.  All 3 tests are taken in the US Government class. Government students are required to take an End of Course Exam.
