Ms. Candace Gilbert-Decker

I am so excited to be your child's 2nd grade teacher! This is my 11th year at Thayer Elementary. I was born and raised in the area and have loved growing up here. I attended Missouri State Univeristy where I received my undergrad in Elementary Education, and my Masters from Columbia College in Educational Leadership - Administration. I have a 10 year old daughter who is in 5th grade, and a 5 year old daughter who starts Kindergarten this year at Thayer. We love playing board games, tennis, and playing at the park, when we are not at school.

Your 2nd grader will learn through many different learning experiences.  Students will learn through guided reading and balanced literacy stations in Reading.  We use a hands-on approach to writing through Step Up to Writing and Writer's Workshop.  Students will develop a strong number sense with our innovative math program, Go Math. Technology is an integral tool in all subject areas. 

All students can learn and will develop confidence in themselves.  You will always be your child's first teacher, and now I have the pleasure of assisting you.
