Mrs. Lashanda McColister

WELCOME to WMDS and to the 8th grade orange team!  My name is Mrs. Lashanda McColister, and I am grateful for and excited about the opportunity to be your child's/children’s new English Language Arts (ELA) teacher for the 2020-2021 school year!

I am an Air Force veteran, wife of a retired U.S. Army soldier, former business owner, and certified school counselor in two states (Arizona and Missouri).  From my years of teaching experience at Forest Glen Middle School and Ramblewood Middle School (both located in Coral Springs, FL) and Waynesville Middle in 2017-18, I have developed essential skills required to teach and implement engaging student activities aligned with the English Language Arts curriculum.  To further assist students who need extra support, I offer Academic Assistance (AA) on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 2:45pm-3:45pm for which students must notify me at least a day in advance if they plan to attend.

I am committed to collaboration and effective communication with students and their families.  I believe that all students are capable of learning when taught new content in a nurturing environment.  Like Theodore Roosevelt, I am a firm believer that students do not care how much you know unless they know how much you care.  My goal is not only to educate them but to equip them with skills necessary to excel as 21st century learners and leaders.  Let's have an awesome school year...GO TIGERS! #gameon
