• Tiger Pride System (TPS)

The Tiger Pride System (TPS) aims to reward effort and achievement by offering various privileges to students who maintain a high standard of academics, citizenship, and attendance. The TPS incentive program is an integral part of the daily school operations and a major motivator for students to put an emphasis on their attendance and GPA. The program utilizes these qualifications to provide the best learning environment for all students at WHS.

    Purpose

The purpose of the card program is to proactively incentivize students with relevant privileges that are meaningful to them, such as travel to privilege areas during Tiger Time and the ability to leave for lunch a couple of minutes early to beat the rush. This program was first developed during the 2015-16 school year and revised with input from faculty and student groups to best meet the needs of our students for the 2016-17 school year. We will continue to monitor and update the system as needed, so the system remains relative and motivating to all students.

    Qualifications

Below are the qualifications for each card status. To begin each school year, students in designated building-wide leadership positions will start with a Platinum Card, all seniors start with a Gold Card, and all other students start with an Orange Card.

Card System Qualifications

  • Cards Are Updated Regularly

To maintain the program’s effectiveness, the criteria of attendance, grades and discipline are pulled every 6 weeks or each grading period. Student card status is then updated and current status cards are handed out to students during Tiger Time.

Each week a grade level intervention team will meet to check student academic performance and update card status, i.e. if a student on red status for academics has met or exceed the orange card qualifications they will be given an orange card at that time. Weighted GPAs will be used for the grade qualifications.

Since attendance is affected by so many different factors, it is pulled two different ways to give students multiple opportunities to meet the qualifications. Students need to meet the attendance standard either through their cumulative attendance percentage for the year or within the last six-week grading period. Students only need to meet the attendance qualification in one of these two categories. Students who are absent because of medical purposes are encouraged to bring a doctor’s note to the Attendance Office. A doctor’s note will excuse students from their cumulative attendance percentage and six week grading period attendance for the card system attendance qualifications.

    Appeal Card Status

If a student feels there was a mistake in their updated card status, they are encouraged to communicate with their administrator. We always encourage students to self-advocate for their needs and open up lines of communication with administration. Oftentimes, the card status can be corrected with a quick conversation.

    Incentives

Orange Card status provides students with all the basic privileges of the school and may attend all extracurricular activities. Students should be able to present their card ID at all extracurricular events. Students may travel for academic purposes during Tiger Time with their visible ID and pass from a teacher within the first 5 minutes. Orange Card students can travel with privileges on Fridays or when designated by Administration. Since freshmen participate in our Freshman Mentor Program during Tiger Time, they will only be able to travel for academic purposes during Tiger Time with their visible ID and pass from a teacher on Tuesday and Friday. Freshman Orange Card students can travel with privileges on Friday or when designated by Administration.

Gold Card students have all the privileges of an orange card status, plus may travel to one location with their visible ID and their Tiger Time teacher’s permission within the first 5 minutes. These students may leave for lunch 2 minutes early at the discretion of their teacher.

Platinum Card students have all the privileges of a gold card status, plus may travel to multiple locations with their visible ID and their TigerTime teacher’s permission within the first 5 minutes. These students may leave 7th hour 2 minutes early at the discretion of their teacher.

Red Card students do not meet the qualifications of the orange card status and will not receive all the basic privileges of the school. Students may travel for academic purposes during Tiger Time with their visible ID and pass from a teacher within the first 5 minutes. As they are a privilege, students may not attend extracurricular events, such as sporting events and dances.
