Mrs. Vanessa Mason

Hello! I am very excited to be teaching music at Wood Elementary! This is my 20th year of teaching elementary music.  Before teaching, I attended Culver-Stockton College where I earned my Bachelor's of Music Education, emphasizing in both instrumental and vocal music.  I specifically studied performance in saxophone and voice.  I also have intermediate skills in piano performance.  I attended Walden University online to earn a Master's in Education in 2009 and just completed my Specialist Degree in K-12 Educational Leadership.  My husband, Dawayne, and I were married in 2010 and we have two handsome little men, Ezekiel & Elijah.  They are the light of our lives!

Being a music teacher is a dream come true. I first wanted to be a music teacher as a freshman in high school.  We were at a marching band competition at Springfield, MO.  The excitement and energy from performing and knowing we had done our best as a band, no matter the scores at the end, was a turning point for me.  From that moment on, I knew I wanted music to be a major part of my life and that I wanted to share this excitement with others as much as possible.

I am truly looking forward to my classes this year! I have the xylophones and drums ready to go and the floor open for dancing and play parties!  Composing and creating will be a big focus this year during music class.  I look forward to all of the amazing music students will bring to Wood Elementary this year!
