Seventh grade math is a fundamental math class. What is learned here will form the backbone for higher level math courses. With this in mind, it is important that students be attentive and work to their fullest potential.
Expectations:
- To be treated with respect, you must be respectable. This means that you must act with maturity and politeness.
- Be responsible. Be on time and have your materials with you and ready.
- Prepare to learn. To learn something you must be active in the process. You must participate in class, do the homework, and set yourself up to succeed. EVERYONE can learn math!
Failure to meet these expectations will result in consequences laid out in the student handbook.
Essentials:
These items are necessary on a daily basis.
- GO Math! Consumable textbook (kept in the classroom) (https://my.hrw.com/ )
- Notebook or binder with paper for taking notes
- Notebook or loose leaf paper for homework
- Pencils and pens (Work turned into me will be done in pencil. Pen will be necessary in various other ways.)
- Calculator (We do have some classroom calculators. One may be assigned to you, and it is expected that you will only use the one you are assigned.)
Chromebooks:
- Students need to come to each class with their Chromebook charged and ready for educational purposes.
- Chromebooks will remain closed and away until instructed to use them.
Knowledge to Attain:
- 7.NS.A-Apply and extend previous understandings of operations to add, subtract, multiply and divide rational numbers.
- 7.RP.A-Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve problems.
- 7.EEI.A-Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
- 7.EEI.B-Solve problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.
- 7.GM.A-Draw and describe geometric figures and describe the relationships between them.
- 7.GM.A-Draw and describe geometric figures and describe the relationships between them.
- 7.DSP.B-Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations.
- 7.DSP.C-Develop, use and evaluate probability models.
Progress and Achievement:
Grading Scale:
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F below 59
Grades will be figured from total points. 50% of the points comes from unit exams and/or unit projects and 50% comes from homework, projects, quizzes,
and formative assessments.
Homework:
Homework will be graded on a weekly basis. Much of this homework will be either reflective in nature or intended to reinforce work done in class. It is important that students are required to recall information at various intervals to help it be retained. Homework completion will be figured into students’ grades.
Quizzes/Tests:
There will be periodic check-ins, formatives, and tests for each unit. There will also be a unit summative at the end of each chapter or unit of study to ensure students have connected the whole picture of a standard. All students may retest 1 time per unit earning the higher of the two grades if:
- the student has turned in all missing assignments on the day of the retest
- attended at least one academic assistance/HERO Intervention
- retest within a week of the original unit exam
Absences or Procrastinations:
If you are absent, you will need to ask for the notes and assignments you missed. Procrastination never pays off, so assignments that are late or incomplete will inhibit learning and will only earn 70% of the original credit. Any late or make up work MUST be turned in the day of the unit summative or the student will NOT receive credit for the work.
