    Geriatrics
    Geriatric Nursing is a 66 hr course that expands over an 8 week period. It presents an overview of the care of the geriatric client, family and client concerns, and the normal aging process. It is designed to teach the student the basic needs of the elderly, how to modify nursing care for the elderly, and how to promote a high level of wellness for the elderly. Emphasis is placed on the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the nursing care for the geriatric client. A holistic approach to care that includes: physiological, psycho-social and psychological components is presented to the students along with the philosophy that the geriatric client continues to develop. The Geriatric Nursing course enables the student to meet the unique needs of geriatric client and their family.The student has the opportunity to apply the concepts of this course during the clinical portion of this program.
