Each school year the state of Missouri continues to “raise the bar” as to the requirements for both good attendance in school as well as academic achievement. In order for our teachers to have sufficient time to teach the required content to all of our students, good attendance is required. The state of Missouri requires that each student be at school at least 90% of the time throughout the school year in order to be in good standing with attendance. This means that students many not miss any more than five days per semester. Please help us maintain this attendance rate by scheduling appointments and vacations outside school hours.

Missouri law requires regular school attendance. Regular and punctual patterns of attendance are essential for achieving success in school and will be required of each student enrolled in the elementary school. It is the responsibility of the student to make up any missed work. Excessive unexcused absences will be reported as educational neglect and are a factor to be considered when determining promotion or retention of students.

Students who are attending Thayer Elementary on “Permission to Attend” from other district schools must remain in good standing with attendance. Excessive absences, late arrivals, or early checkouts from school may cause the “Permission to Attend” to be revoked.

If your child is going to be absent from school, please notify the school office at 842-2200 as soon as possible.
