This course is designed to familiarize students with the basic concepts and principles of chemistry and to provide a firm foundation for further education in an area of scientific study. Students learn to think critically and logically, and to develop strategies for solving problems.
This second-year chemistry course is designed for the college-bound student interested in an area of science. These students have mastered the fundamental chemical principles and are prepared for a more sophisticated treatment of chemical topics. Beginning with a review of general chemical principles, the course progresses to organic chemistry. Successful completion of this course may result in the student receiving four hours of college credit from Drury University.
In Chemistry of Materials, the students will learn the fundamental principles of the structure and properties of materials and the relationships between structure and electrical, mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. The students will learn about metals, ceramics, multiphase systems, and polymeric materials.
