What if the Chromebook is lost or stolen?
If a Chromebook ends up missing while at school, the student must report it immediatly to their Library Media or Technology Integration Specialists on the day of the occurrence. Once reported, an investigative process will occur to recover the device.
If a device is lost or stolen outside of school, the incident must be reported to local law enforcement officals within 24 hours of the occurence. Documentation of the police report will need to be provided to the school's adminstration within one day of the occurrence.

What happens if my child accidentally damages the Chromebook?
All families are encouraged to pay the annual mobile device fee. Once a fee has been paid, the device will be protected at no cost for one incident annually. For example, if a student cracks the screen, the screen would be replaced one time per year at no additional cost to the student. If a student has subsequent incidents during a school year, the student would be required to pay the amount identified on the Annual Wavier and Deductible Schedule.
If the damage is considered intentional damage, a meeting with the parent/guardian will be required and the full price for the repair will be charged to the student per Board Policy EHB. -
How is one student's Chromebook identified from another student?
All the Chromebooks are the same make and model, so they look alike. However, each Chromebook and charger will be tagged with a sticker with a unique identifier on it. Additionally, district asset tags with bar codes will be on each device and each device has a serial number. The district keeps all that data, so if a Chromebook or charger is misplaced, we can determine who it is assigned to get it back to the student. Any ID stickers that are on the Chromebook when issued must stay on the Chromebook.
No additional permanent markings of any kind (stickers, engraving, permanent ink pen, tape, etc.) shall be placed on the Chromebook. While the devices are issued to students, they are still district-owned property. -
Are Chromebooks safe?
Yes! Here is a link to a great video explaining Chromebook Security.
Video - Chromebook Security
Beside Chromebooks having built in security, your student's device will be using the same internet content filter, Securly, at home that is used at school. The content filter will always remain on no matter where your student is using the device.
With any technology, the safest way for students to use an Internet connected device is under the supervision of an adult. We teach students about internet safety and what it means to be a good digital citizen. Parents can learn more about digital citizenship and age specific Internet safety resources here. -
What steps have been taken to protect students from inappropriate content?
All devices that are the property of Waynesville R-VI Schools have a cloud-based filter, which restricts content both at school and away from school. As stated in Board Policy EHB, the district will take measures to prevent minors from accessing/viewing inapproriate material on the Internet. The filter restricts categories like pornography, gambling, and social networking sites. It is important to remember that no filter is foolproof, but the district will take every measure to make sure our filter is working properly. If at any time a student, parent, or guardian finds that our is not working, please contact your school adminstrator.
As with any technology device, the safest way for students to use a computer is under the supervision of an adult. -
What if the Chromebook can not connect to our home wireless router?
Unfortunately, the district technology staff can’t troubleshoot your home network. However, we can make sure the device is appropriately connecting to a wireless network. If we do show that the Chromebook has no problems connecting to a wireless router, we encourage you to read this information and then reach out to your Internet Service Provider for troubleshooting.
- Double check the authentication needed to connect to the wireless router and that it is being typed in correctly.
- Wireless routers have limits on the number of devices they can physically support. This can be as few as 15 in home grade equipment.
- Turn off other wireless devices in your house (don’t forget the game systems, TV’s, Cable/Satellite boxes, cell phones, etc) then reboot the router and see if the Chromebook can connect.
- Confirm there are enough IP addresses in the DHCP scope of your router. How to do this will be specific to your Router. Each devices on the network uses one.
- Research your Router to see how many devices the manufacturer says it should support concurrently connected.
- Take your device to another network (such as a friends house or a public place that offers it as a service) and confirm you are able to get the device to connect.

What if my child forgets their Chromebook at home?
The Chromebook will play an integral role in classroom instruction, so it is extremely important that students bring their Chromebooks to class every day. The Chromebook will become part of a student’s necessary classroom supplies similar to a pencil and notebook paper.
If a student forgets his or her Chromebook, specific procedures and expectations will vary from school to school.
-
How often does the Chromebook need to be charged?
Students are expected to fully charge the Chromebook each evening at home, which should provide sufficient battery life to use the device throughout the school day. Students should also try to preserve battery power during the school day by lowering the lid whenever the device is not in use.
-
Will students be able to charge their Chromebooks at school?
One of the strengths of the Chromebook is its exceptional battery length. When fully charged, the Chromebook battery should last the entire school day. Chromebooks should be charged nightly at home so students can bring a fully charged device to school each day.
Each classroom has a limited amount of electrical receptacle outlets. Allowing students to charge their Chromebooks in class will be at each teacher's discretion.
