Welcome to Mrs. Jones' Class

Welcome to First Grade at East Elementary!  It is an honor to serve as your child's first grade teacher and share this special time of your child's life with you. I'm excited to have the opportunity to get to know your child, and I'm looking forward to a productive school year. I will do my very best to keep you informed of your child's progress and upcoming events.

I would also like to take this time to tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Crocker High School in 2005 and Drury University in 2011. I am currently working toward a master's degree through Lindenwood University. I am married and I have one child. I am dedicated to providing your child with a quality education.

I encourage you contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the school year. Once again, welcome to First Grade. Let's work together to make this the best year ever!

Classroom Information and Procedures

o   Folder: Each night your child will bring home a plastic “Communicator” folder. The folder is marked inside with “keep at home” and “return to school.” Please check your child’s “Communicator” folder each night and return to school with him/her the next day.  Each Friday you will find the Weekly Newsletter to keep you informed of what we are learning each week, reminders and announcements.

o   Spelling Words: Please encourage your child to practice his/her spelling words Monday through Thursday nights to prepare him/her for the test on Friday. We take the spelling pretest on Monday and the spelling post-test on Friday.

o   Grades: Your child will receive report card each quarter and a progress report at each mid-quarter. You may also access your child’s grades anytime via the web with PowerSchool. Contact the office to obtain user ID and password information.

o   Snacks: We will have snack time each afternoon.  I will send home a snack calendar every month. Please send enough snack for 21 students. Due to students with food allergies, please DO NOT send in snacks containing peanut butter. Thank you!

o   Birthdays: You are welcome to send in cupcakes or other special treats for your child’s birthday. I have tried to schedule your child's snack on their birthday.  We will celebrate your child’s birthday during our regular snack time in the afternoon.

o   Homework: I will send home homework every Monday in the comunicator folder. The homework needs to be initialed every day and returned on friday. The spelling list is on the homework packet.

o   Book Orders: I will send home Scholastic book orders periodically during the school year. You have the option of sending in the book order with your child or ordering online for your convenience.

o   Parties: We will have two parties, a Christmas Party and Valentine’s Day party. You are welcome to send in treats for those parties.

o   Volunteering: If you would like to volunteer in the classroom, please schedule time with the office per district procedures. We must follow guidelines for volunteering such as background checks, etc., so please see the office staff if you are willing to volunteer.
