SUPERINTENDENT'S SPOTLIGHT

Welcome!

The Waynesville R-VI School District is proud of the accomplishments of its staff and students.  Throughout the school year during monthly meetings of the Board of Education, the School Board and district administration recognizes individuals for their notable accomplishments.  The Superintendent's Spotlight web page serves to highlight these individuals by posting a summary on this page after the Board meeting in which they were recognized.

FEBRUARY 2012

Instructional coaches Scott Turner and Lisa Supancic (not pictured) received a certificate of recognition from Dr. Susan Gettys for their presentation "Learning Walks: A Data-Driven Professional Development Process" at the 2012 Powerful Learning Conference.

Waynesville Middle School staff members Neftali Perez, Kim Amodio, Diane Wall, and Carol Jemes (not pictured) presented "Keeping Focused on the Goal" at the 2012 Powerful Learning Conference.  

In honor of National FFA and CTE Month, the following Waynesville Career Center students were recognized:

Donal Bailey who recited the FFA Creed.

Cassie Shultz for receiving 2nd place in proficiency in Veterinary Science at the area agriculture education competition.

Logan Long for receiving 3rd place in proficiency in Diversified Agriculture Production Entrepreneurship and Placement at the area agriculture competition.



 


Members of Waynesville High School's Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) organization raised $4,396 for the American Cancer Society this past fall.  They also had a number of students successfully compete in the "Star Events" competition.

Waynesville High School student Miles Migliara was selected as our district's nominee for the 2012 MSBA Future Builders John T. Belcher Scholarship.

JANUARY 2012

Mike Beattie, theatre/drama teacher at Waynesville High School, received the honor of being selected as the Judith Rethwisch Outstanding Theatre Educator for 2011-2012 for the State of Missouri.

Mike Armstrong, Waynesville High School counselor, serves as a "clearing house," helping to identify students in need of food items outside of the school day.  Doug Campbell, Waynesville High School teacher, organizes the food pantry coordinating donations of food items from high school staff by department and providing food in duffel bags provided by the thrift shop to be sent home with students on Thursdays.

The following Waynesville High School students were selected to the below-listed choirs/bands:

     All-State Choir: Jacob Malley, Ester Malone, Mikaela Smith, and Terin Williams (Honorable Mention).

     All-State Band:  Aaron Keeton

     All-State Jazz Band:  Dan O'Brien (Honorable Mention)

     SWACDA Choir:  Jacob Malley, Natosha Sheaffer, and Mikaela Smith

Laura Banks, community patron, coordinates the high school's clothing closet that supplies clothing items to students in need.  Her work with the 787th MP Battalion, the high school's Partner in Education (PIE), has helped many students not only with clothing but also hygiene materials and school supplies.

Fort Wood Hotels and the Fort Leonard Wood Warrant Officer Association (Show-Me Chapter) donated $2,700 and $300, respectively, to support the Snack in the Pack program.  This program supplements the food needs of over 150 students outside of the school day.  The donations also helped to provide the necessary extra food items to student during the extended holiday break.  



DECEMBER 2011

C.J. Dunkel, Waynesville Middle School science teacher, was the 2nd Quarter Project Teach winner for his project "Rocketeering."  Mr. Mike Freeman, representing the Sellers-Sexton automobile dealership that sponsors Project Teach, presented the award to Mr. Dunkel.  


Hilary Bales, Marsha Smith, Larissa Cutsinger, and Shawna Cochran from East Elementary School presented "Tiering up the Triangle with RtI and PBS" at the MO-CASE Winter Institute.


Kim Amodio and Carol Jemes from Waynesville Middle School presented "Interventions for All" at the Missouri State Teachers Association Fall Conference.


Instructional Coaches Leanne Mowery-Halbrook, Lisa Supancic, and Scott Turner presented "Assessing the Impact of District-Provided Professional Learning" at the Learning Forward 2011 Annual Conference.  Dr. Susan Gettys, assistant superintendent for instructional services, presented certificates of recognition to each of the instructional coaches.


Cassie Shultz, Waynesville Career Center student, earned a Gold Ribbon Reserve Champion at the Missouri State Fair for her canned pickles in the FFA division.  Mrs. Laura McVay, director of Waynesville Career Center, presented a certificate of recognition to Cassie.


The Waynesville JROTC Raider Team placed as national runners up at the 2011 Raider National Championships.  Jacob Bautista and Jesslyn Clark defeated the 54 best male and female Raiders in the country to claim individual national titles.


The Waynesville Tiger Booster Club was presented a certificate of recognition from Josh Scott, director of district MSHSAA activities, for their increased promotion of Waynesville Athletics.




NOVEMBER 2011

Bruce Kimball, 5th grade teacher at Thayer Elementary, was presented with the Outstanding Educator award from Ralph Turner of the American Legion Post 331 in St. Robert.



OCTOBER 2011


Freedom Elementary students Matthew Meyer, Sinjin Sanders, Jaylen Hill, Colin Kramer, Taylor Spaan, Kristine Grube, Skylar Still, Breonna North, Milana Hawk, Cameron Mitchell, Jacob Estrada, and Victor Daos attended the week-long Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama, in September 2011.  The students learned what it would be like to train to be an astronaut.  


Robin Woolsey, building technology specialist at Wood Elementary, was the 1st Quarter Project Teach winner for her project "Tiger Travelers."  Mr. Mike Freeman, representing the Sellers-Sexton automobile dealership that sponsors Project Teach, presented the award to Dr. Sonya Campbell who accepted on Mrs. Woolsey's behalf.

SEPTEMBER 2011

Shelly Wong, Craig Blair, Erik Logan, C.J. Dunkel, and Jerl Hurling attended to an 8th grade middle school student that collapsed during football warm-ups until emergency personnel arrived.



The 2010-2011 WHS Baseball Team was named as a 2011 Class 4 Academic All State Team.  Damian Fadl, James Holler, Nick Munoz, and Dylan Newcomb were named 2011 MHSBCA Academic All-State Athletes.




AUGUST 2011


At the national SkillsUSA competition held in Kansas City, Missouri, on June 20-24, 2011, Jessa Warren, Rashell Grub, and Amani Gavin), were 1st Place Gold Medal Winners and Skill Point Certificate recipients for Tech Prep Showcase, Arts & Visual Communication.



Melissa Meliton-Paolicelli and Larissa Cutsinger, PBS coaches at East Elementary School, recently presented at the Positive Behavior Support Summer Institute.  These two educators shared their building's process of utilizing the PBS Classroom Modules to assist in providing positive environments throughout their building classrooms and assist with student success.  Dr. Susan Gettys, assistant superintendent for instructional services, presented a certificate of recognition to both of the PBS coaches.
