The Best "PIE" in Missouri!
The goal of the Partnership in Education (PIE) sponsorship program is to create a positive reciprocal relationship between the military community and the area educational facilities in support of the educational and social growth of children as learners and as citizens. Key participants in the program include, but are not limited to, military sponsor units, local school districts, community resource coordinator(s), Child, Youth, & School Services, home schooled student population, and the FLW Army Volunteer Coordinator.
As PIE participants, sponsor units and volunteer service members demonstrate a commitment to our community and youth by actively committing their time and resources to improving our children's opportunities to become productive and responsible citizens. Fort Leonard Wood service members have the training, education and experience to serve as excellent role models for our youth. Therefore, by serving as PIE volunteers these individuals stand to make significant contributions to our community and its learners.
Many diverse opportunities for school and program involvement exist, varying from ongoing interactive programs to special events and projects. However the availability of military personnel as resources for supporting families and students is vital to capturing educational partnership opportunities. Such opportunities include: tutoring students in academic content areas, mentoring students in at-risk or special populations such as those with a deployed parent/guardian, establish extracurricular clubs and activities, provide personnel to assist with school/program special events, conduct professional inquiry events such as career day, health and dental fairs, career exploration and guidance, and other volunteer services as deemed appropriate by the individual school and/or program. Additionally, partnership opportunities also exist for the schools to support the military sponsors with activities such as letter writing campaigns for deployed personnel, recognition ceremonies, holiday celebrations, tokens of appreciation such as artwork for unit environments, help support installation or unit beautification day, and provide unit personnel with a sense of community and belonging.
